Newcastle Targeting Town Striker Murphy
at 11:17:33

One of Rhodes or Wickham could be doable on a season long loan if we get decent money for Murphy. Wickham's all round game would give us a similar like for like replacement for Murphy, Rhodes would bring a shed load of goals.

Newcastle Targeting Town Striker Murphy
at 11:01:20

Interestingly Murphy's goals per games average since he permanently signed has been 1 in every 2.5 games so if he stayed fit for a full season he'll get about 16-18 goals (during his previous loan spells, where he was often shunted out to the wing by Jewell & Keane it drops to less than 1 in 4).

McGoldrick's goal ratio is 1 in 3.25 games but his injuries mean he's not as reliable as we'd all like.

Sears's goal ratio is 1 in 3 but he has been played wide in a 3 or as a wide midfielder.

Pitman is just over 1 in 3

Leon best has only hit double figures twice in his career and that was in league 1 with Coventry and 10 goals for Newcastle in the Championship.

Cold hard statistics would indicate Murphy is our most effective striker and we should battle to keep him, however, if McCarthy has another hidden gem such as Grant Ward lined up or maybe a season long loan for a premiership player such as Connor Wickham who might be out of the picture at Palace after Benteke's signing it's worth considering the move if the money's right.

Scorer of U14s’ 'Barcelona' Goal Joins Arsenal
at 15:24:50

The fee is set by the EPPP system, ITFC have no say in this, it's worked out by the time the player has spent at the club, I think £100,000 is an arbitary figure for this story, if he's been in our academy since the age of 9 we'd get around £68,000 (figures do vary a bit) and then there are further fixed fees that equate to £100,000-150,000 for every 10 EPL appearances up to a maximum of about £1.3M. There are small percentage clauses automatically added on to future sales, these haven't been confirmed but most estimates put them between 2.5% and 5% of future fees.

I'm not sure Gilbey's the answer as a goal scoring midfielder despite what Mr Feast says, 2 goals in 78 appearances at League 1 and Conference level hardly sets the pulse racing. Remember guys it's only a pre-season friendly!

Connor: Plenty More to Come From Frank
at 15:23:06

We currently play a rigid style of football where our success comes from our limited players sticking to a set game plan positionally. If you watch any one player, rather than the game, for 5 minutes you'll see them take up virtually the same positions on the pitch, especially defensively. This works for us as we have a limited squad and limited players, we are very much more a suk of our parts. Nouble does his job within the team and we therefore have better results. Paul Taylor is an off the cuff player, technically skilled but I've watched him several times and he is very poor positionally without the ball, he doesn't track his man.

Personally I'd love to see Town play with a position for Taylor, but McCarthy isn't going to do that, he values results and team ethic over fancy-dan pieces of individual skill. Taylor is very much a Jewell player, like Bullard, technically exciting but we all remember Jewell's tactics (ie there were none, just stick your 11 best players as opposed to your best team on the field) and where they got us. I believe next season MM will bring in a couple of wingers and maybe a deep lying playmaker and this will allow us to kick on within the rigid 442/433 system he prefers.

Hyam Sidelined for a Fortnight
at 22:54:25

Hyam is a player who does the dirty side of the game that most football fans don't see or understand. If you spend 5 minutes just watching him his movement off the ball is selfless and when we're out if posession he is 95% of the time, the first player closing down and covering. Hyam allows the rest of the team to play, I think Skuse is a decent player but if you want to find fault look at Him for the lack of creativity and goals, don't have a go at a player who always gives 100% and does the nitty gritty job in midfield that others players don't do just because it isn't glamorous.

Ideally I'd like to see us play with a bit more creativity but considering ITFC are a team of free transfers I'm pretty satisfied with how MM is doing. All those morons who go on about Evans putting his hand in his pocket clearly have no inkling of how the fair play rules work.

We have a decent team not struggling against relegation but in the top half of the league (how long since we've been able to say that?), a well regarded manager and coach and a super academy director with category 1 status on the way and a number of promising youngsters gaining invaluable experience on loan.

The futures bright, the futures Ipswich!

Town Made Barnett Approach
at 14:41:46

Michael11, After speaking to my Bantam mates it's been evident Wells has been poor since he's been linked with other clubs & if he does move the word is he wants to stay in the north.

I think this is Mr Fry generating a bit of publicity for himself. I guess Mick could have asked about his availability just in case we lose one of our big guys like Murphy and need a quick replacement but probably not as a long term replacement for any of our front 5, especially as we're joint 3rd top scorers in the league.

I'm confident MM is looking at a defensive player to bolster numbers as we've been very lucky injury wise and a flair player in the middle to give us a different option

Villa Confirm Graham Loan
at 12:13:10

I think MM realises pace is something we lack, he's liked to have at least one very quick wide man to push back the oppositions defensive line so there's more space for our midfield to exploit. Hewitt is a great prospect but not lightning quick, Taylor is nippy over a short distance but not a speed merchant. I think Jordan will probably be here to offer is the blistering pace we've lacked for some time. The FA seem to rate him quite highly:

Taylor Impresses for Posh
at 07:27:56

I'm surprised some if our fans are so privy to what goes on in the dressing room and at training between Taylor and McCarthy. I wonder how else they can base there suppositions that MM has a issue with Taylor. He was the player MM turned to for 20+ mins away at WAFC and he looked good in part but he can't play 90mins after such along injury without playing regular first team football. At Peterborough he is, even not match fit, one of their best players, when he returns in November match fit he will be one of our best players too!

Wigan Athletic 2-0 Town
at 20:22:38

I went to the game today, town played well and controlled the game but conceded due to 2 individual errors, Chambers lost Shotton for the first and Gerken, who had already almost slid out of the area with the ball twice before, gifted Powell the second. Despite the possession and attempts on goal we didn't really create any clear cut chances, out strikers didn't miss anything and I think the criticism of them is unfair, the issue is service and creativity from midfield. Skuse looks assured but lacks energy, Hyam's energy and work rate were excellent but his end product was poor, Anderson and Tunnicliffe worked hard and showed neat touches however none of these players looked to play a killer pass or took on their man. Taylor did do this when he came on and Wordsworth maybe an option in midfield but until this is addressed there's no point in considering a striker as he'll be in the same boat as Murphy, DMG etc in trying to fashion his own chances.

Birmingham 1-1 Town
at 19:17:54

At this point in previous seasons:

2011-2012: Crystal Palace had less points (3) after 5 games, their now in the Premiership, Bolton had the same (4) and finished outside the play offs on goal difference

2010-2011: Birmingham & Reading both gave the same points (4) and finished 4th & 1st respectively.

During both these seasons we had MORE points at this stage and we all know how the season panned out. Wait till we're 10 games in before hitting the panic button!

We have a more solid team, I agree we lack a bit of flair but the teams I've just mentioned all went up grinding out results. COYB!

McCarthy: We Were on Way to Good Point
at 19:48:12

Last year under Jewell that match would have seen us shipping 3+ goals, MM has made us more solid and we have a much better work effort. Last year Jewell wouldn't have given a logical reason for subbing/dropping someone (remember the atrocious treatment of Loach?) MM has given a logical reason, Skuse going off meant we lot our control of midfield, MM tried to change things bringing on PT, it didn't work and we needed a different option with height and power so we could defend and alleviate pressure by hitting the channels. MM has given sound footballing reasons for his decision. Anyone moaning about losing by a single goal to 2 relegated teams packed with big money players obviously has NO idea about football.

McCarthy Pleased With Taylor Progress
at 10:01:26

What I like most about our strikers is the variety, DMcG is the technical link player, a bit of an all rounder, Murphy is our target man, Nouble is a powerful pacey player and Taylor is unpredictable box of tricks. When they're all fit I'd expect MM to rotate around DMcG depending on the opposition's weaknesses, be it pace or aerial ability.

I'm not sure about needing a 'Johnny on the spot' though, teams that spread the goals around win promotion, the teams that rely on several players for goals don't win the big prizes.
