Hyam Sidelined for a Fortnight
Monday, 20th Jan 2014 17:23

Midfielder Luke Hyam will be out of action for at least two weeks with scans confirming that a deep cut just below his right knee was the full extent of the injury he suffered during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Millwall.

The 22-year-old was stretchered off in the eighth minute of the game at the Den after a challenge with ex-Blue and fellow former Northgate High School pupil Liam Trotter. He was taken to hospital in London before being released on Saturday evening.

Town physio Matt Byard told the club site: “Luke’s had a scan on the knee and that’s all clear.

“The hospital washed out the cut, which is just below the knee, and then stitched up the wound.

“It’s a deep cut and there is some heavy bruising around the area as well. He’s on crutches and we have to be careful that the knee doesn’t get infected.

“If all goes well, you are looking at around two weeks before he can get out on the training ground again.”

Earlier today, a clearly frustrated Hyam tweeted: “You don't appreciate certain things until they get taken away from you #cantmove.”

Maybe get a midfielder in with pace flair and knows how to stick the ball away

Cant see MM bringing in a loan to cover for Hyam whilst he's out! Would be nice if MM would try something different in midfield but don't think that is very likely.

Two weeks, that's not so bad and better than I feared.

I think we all agree that the midfield needs strengthening if we are to push for a play-off place. Hopefully Hyam being out will strengthen the resolve to bring a new man in.

Now's the time we will see whether we are a better team or a worse team without hyam in our midfield. What with hyam injured, woody ill and poss going on loan, tabb out of form and tunnicliffe hit and miss, here's hoping we might bring in a creative, goal scoring midfielder to play alongside skuse. Fingers crossed but wont hold my breath

Whilst not wishing any players to get injured, think it will be a blessing as he offers the team so little.

How about trying McGoldrick in midfield sitting just behind the strikers who would be Taylor and Murphy if I had a choice.

Gerken,
Mings, Chambers, Smith, Cresswell
Anderson, Skuse, Hunt
McGoldrick
Taylor, Murphy

Cannot be any worse that the crap dished on Saturday!!

The only good think that could possibly come out of this is the fact that... fingers crossed... MM will now be forced to add to his midfield options in this transfer window.

Poor Luke is the just the latest in a long line of young players at Town who have been given abuse of recent years by so called fans because he isnt one of the best midfielders in the country already like Garvan ,Trotter, Smith .
Add Mac, Delaney , Bruce all not good enough for Town who apparently couldnt defend according to Town fans but all play regularly in the premiership now .
Get well soon Luke

...."Hyam offered so little to the side" .

Is that why the midfield became non existant when he went off at milwall then? He might not be blessed with creativity but he's ability to perform a holding role and win the ball for the team is not performed by skuse in the same way and we have no oth player that performs that holding role. Just because Hyam doesnt create for the team is not his fault , but More the fault of MM/TC to find another midfielder to Play alongside either Hyam or Scuse with a creative role. Igs is a "team" game where good teams a blended / mixed together effectively. This is still the case at Town, although under Mick we are better than we have been for many years.

Some of these comments are despicable.Luke is injured.I hope he doesn't read this grumpy, gutless, garbage.

Equally, have any of these 'fans' watched 'Moneyball'? Hyam is a a moneyballl player. Not a showboater. When he plays, more often than not,we win or draw. He put points on the table.

We almost certainly would be in league One without him.Look at the stats when he plays.

Supporters.Look it up.

Franck Moussa 8 goals,i think, from midfield for Coventry this season, out of contract at the end of the season.Rumoured to be talking to Town last week on the Coventry forum, seems like the type Mick might go for?

Earlier today fans were posting comments about our young players currently out on loan (such as Marriott and Hewitt) being called back and given a run in our team. Suggesting that fans would be completely supportive that they are likely to make mistakes and forgiving inexperience that would probably lead to making the wrong choices during play. Read what is being posted about Luke's injury here and you can see exactly why that's a very bad idea. Tommy Smith was apparently dreadful while on loan at Colchester, he made his mistakes there and look at him now. Imagine how some of our fans would have 'celebrated' his injury after gifting two goals in one game, like he did when he was on loan. Unbelievable.

Idiots out again I see. As for your comment Ormey, well I can't print my reply. I agree once again with Langdon, I'm afraid on here the club are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. The comparison between Smith and Hyam is very good point. After a promising start TS went right off the boil but is now a key player for us. LH could well be the same, his performance against QPR was terrific and let's hope he continurd in that vein when he comes back.

Hyam is a player who does the dirty side of the game that most football fans don't see or understand. If you spend 5 minutes just watching him his movement off the ball is selfless and when we're out if posession he is 95% of the time, the first player closing down and covering. Hyam allows the rest of the team to play, I think Skuse is a decent player but if you want to find fault look at Him for the lack of creativity and goals, don't have a go at a player who always gives 100% and does the nitty gritty job in midfield that others players don't do just because it isn't glamorous.

Ideally I'd like to see us play with a bit more creativity but considering ITFC are a team of free transfers I'm pretty satisfied with how MM is doing. All those morons who go on about Evans putting his hand in his pocket clearly have no inkling of how the fair play rules work.

We have a decent team not struggling against relegation but in the top half of the league (how long since we've been able to say that?), a well regarded manager and coach and a super academy director with category 1 status on the way and a number of promising youngsters gaining invaluable experience on loan.

The futures bright, the futures Ipswich!

when it looked like we had a choice between Mick and Ollie many said that Mick would be better at keeping us up but Ollie would be better at building a team. HOW ?? fair play rules ( and the fact ME has sensibly decided he has given enough already) mean we have little to spend. here lies the start of the problem

RaymondovicBlue added 23:32 - Jan 20
my worry is.... if lack of funds means lack of fresh faces and flair ... won't the shrinking crowds mean EVEN LESS to spend in future

am I missing something??

personally I apologise for being pro Ollie .... he's great in his way at his club but Mick is our man and he's doing a good job on a shoe string

I am amazed and disappointed at some of the crap being written on here about a young lad who is still learning his trade. To want an Ipswich player to be out for the season is just disgraceful. Call yourselves town fans we can do without fans like you! We all have opinions but some of these are just stupid. Good luck Luke hope to see you back soon.

You are so right Surco, spot on. Some of the so called Town supporters should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Hyam is a young man and, most probably, will never be the greatest midfielder in the Country but he is a work horse and still learning his trade. It was probably the same people slating Smith eighteen months ago, now look at him. We want our young players in, supported and given a confidence boost to help them mature. Get well soon Luke and please ignore these disgraceful posts.

To those who think we are better without Hyam , I say you are completely wrong as the results over next fortnight will prove.
