Always thought Swan might have had the No.5 shirt for England in 1966. I met Kaye in about 1970. He kept a bar in Salou, Costa Dorada, and did water ski coaching. Had all his cuttings up on the walls of his bar.
From memory, the other two got their player's licences back (in their 30s) but he didn't bother.

Kaye, Lane and Swan went to prison for this.

Strangely, betting against their team (SW) to lose to Ipswich!

I saw a Capybara near Bromswell today
at 22:27 1 May 2023

Exactly. They were vegetarian, but used to dig out a home in the side of dykes or rivers. Eventually, it would collapse and they'd move home. About the size of a beaver. Capybara is much bigger (same family). A neighbour's Jack Russell brought a dead one back from the marshes one day, interesting.

Promotion at Portman Road?

Exciting. Ray equalised John Connolly’s opener, and that was it. Onto the pitch and I had Billy Houghton’s boot for a while.

SBR spent ages trying to buy The late Willie Maddren from M’bro. Turned out we didn’t need him! Happy days.

Sitting with the home fans at an away game
at 15:45 11 Jan 2023

Brentford away, with my Bees supporting bro-in-law. Resolved to stay quiet...15 seconds later, Murphy scored and I was up and loud. Old boy(with his dad in a wheelchair) gave me dogs abuse thereafter, despite my satirical polite applause every time we scored after that. Good day out!

Phil - piggot leaving means striker signing close?
at 20:56 11 Jul 2022

I think they generally spread the fee over the contract for tax reasons. Don’t know what we would have paid him to join us, but add that to his wages.

Isn't that because a large part of his wages is his signing on fee - came to us on a free. He'll want to get that paid up, or he's wasted running down his contract. If we get a transfer fee for him, it will probably go in paying up his signing on fee.

Was that the match when he caught Bob Wilson's head on the full volley? Seemed to be a popular move at the time!

Pointless hypothetical question about the early 80s Ipswich team.
at 19:27 18 May 2022

It was a sad misunderstanding. PJ asked for £20k signing on fee. SBR understood it to be £20k net of tax (so at the time about £80k gross). Too expensive.
PJ later confirmed that he only meant £20k gross.
Who knows what a difference that would have made, although remember Coops record at saving penalties.

When he got the ball in the final third, he was the one player you would fear the most. Fantastic goal scorer. Scored a hilarious penalty against Banks, who was fiddling about with his gloves in the corner of the net. Ref blew his whistle and Greaves rolled the ball into the opposite corner.

Any of you lot see Led Zep at St Matthew's Baths in '71?

It was phenomenal! Crammed, not sure how many but hundreds, both on the floor and the balconies.
We were level with the big old glass lights, and they started vibrating like mad when JPJ played the bass opening to Dazed and Confused. Very loud but good acoustics, my ears were ringing for days afterwards. One of my mates had ear plugs in throughout and said it sounded brilliant.
