Town Closing in On Coulson Loan
at 15:17:27

Not bad if this goes through. I live up here in the north-east and a lot of my my Smoggie friends like his pace and ability to cross the ball. They also don't see him as a left back and say he should be playing more up the field. They are also concerned that he may stay with us and not return to Teesside...#COYB

U18s at Boro in Youth Cup
at 00:29:43

I live 6 miles from the Riverside and 21 miles from the Heritage Park - The Stadium of ***** is more local to Middlesbrough than Bish Vegas. Not even in the same county for the lads. Boro's Rockliffe Hall training ground is 15 miles nearer - why not play there?

However, you can watch the match from the Sainsbury's car park despite it being behind closed doors...

Lambert: Have a Drink on Me

Remember when we went up to the Stadium of Light (replace with suitable rhyming word) a couple of seasons ago and showed them how support should sound? We need to give the Mackems a reminder but at 10 times the volume! COYB!

Cambridge United 0-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report

"but he nearly ended their career..." That was Scholes tackle from behind in the same match. Rooney was an elbow to the face. Both got a ban. Is it Simunovic from Celtic thay has just got a 2 match domestic ban for a friendly send off?

Beattie Statue Campaign Receives Plinth Donation Boost
at 11:05:40

I think it is very generous of Ridgeons to donate the materials for the plinth. Yes, BullardsMagicMullet, it is sad that some of the employees are being made redundant but would the cost of the materials cover the wages of those that are going?

It is more likely that the advertising from making this charitable donation will generate more revenue with their name becoming more widely known. That might just stave off some of the redundancies for a while.

It might help if customers supported their local businesses instead of complaining about them all the time. I mean, look how much nicer PR is now that the fans are supporting the team...

It’s Not Progressive Football, It’s Tony Pulis - Middlesbrough Pre-Season Report
at 13:18:32

As a blue living on Teesside (note the two 's' in the middle!😉) my friends up here are worried about this coming season. Their criticism of Assombalonga (who cost 3 times what we were offered for Waggy and 45 times what we paid for him) is huge and they are rightly worried about the strength in depth.

However, the one thing they will always have is phenomenal support. Despite the economic hardships of living in the forgotten industrial wastelands the locals will always turn out in big numbers and provide extra motivation for the players on the pitch. This is something that we could and should be providing at PR. Remember when we used to? What if we did it again?

Town 1-2 Royale Union Saint-Gilloise - Match Report
at 17:47:28

Our preseason had been pretty dire this year. And last year. And the year before.

It means nothing.

We finished 7th last year and can someone remind me what happened the previous year? (trying to forget...) We consistently over perform as we are a club without a spending owner (had his fingers burnt with BFJ and the Irish Muppet) and a northern hard man as a manager.

I like Mick (better the devil you know) and his ability to grind out a result. I like winning. I like the feeling at 5 o'clock on a Saturday that I can have a drink because Ipswich have won (if the wife let's me). I don't like the fact that we lose when we should win. Too many times we have been beaten by the lesser team after outplaying the favourite in the previous match.

My point is this: Pre season doesn't matter. As long as Mick gets it right more times than he gets it wrong during the regular season then I'm a happy Tractor Boy - with hopefully many a blurry Saturday night...

Middlesbrough 0-0 Town - Match Report
at 09:35:11

As one of the 329 (really that many? Seemed like fewer), I can safely say it wasn't all backs against the wall. Yes we were not the greatest I have ever seen us play and yes, we only managed one shot on goal. But, at times, we played some (dare I say it?) "attractive" football.

WHAT?!

For two whole moves - totalling 45 seconds - our play was reminiscent of the early 80's: pass, move, look, pass, move, look; triangles; running in to space; moving up the field. It was beautiful.

Then it was back to the loooooong ball that has plagued this team of late. Knudsen hoofs it to Didsy or Freddie. Skusey hoofs it out to Feeney. Hyam hoofs it in to the stratosphere. It was on these occasions that we invariably lost the ball. Every time the ball left the ground the Boro were rubbing their collective hands in glee and preparing for another assault.

I could write another 1000 words on what I saw at the Riverside (I might later!) but it still won't change the fact that we need to get the ball back down and start playing the "Ipswich" way.

Until then, life will be pretty bleak my friend...

Town "Second Most Popular Championship Club"

"What a stupid thing to say. That would only make sense if they were promoted from the third level in 1992."

I think Crock that these are the figures because that was when the leagues were restructured due to the formation of the Premier League.

Town "Second Most Popular Championship Club"
at 17:49:06

"Many people expected Leeds, in particular, to win a considerably higher number of regions.”

I think you'll find that the "many people" was indeed only the Head of Scheduling at Sky Sports. That is why they have been featured so many times over the more "popular" clubs.

On a more serious note, some people would rather spend the £30-odd quid for one months subscription to SS than the vastly inflated prices to see one dire Championship match. At least with Sky Sports you can fast forward through the boring bits - a feature some fans at PR would love to do...

Ipswich Away Can’t Be as Bad as Last Year - Notes for Middlesbrough
at 22:27:50

Thanks Harry for another great read.

I live just outside the Boro and most of my friends up here are fans. They are all waiting for the wheels to fall off the Boro steam-train which, they constantly remind me, happens in January. I wouldn't mind kick-starting ab early mid-season collapse!

However, I do believe they might prove too strong for us and we could be in trouble (notwithstanding our perennial thorn David Nugent). It does seem that all the stars are aligning for us to get thrashed - Nugent, the "live on Sky" curse, they haven't beaten us at home since '93, my mate Pete saying that Boro will lose... - but I shall remain positive. Even if my sons are Boro supporters....
