OK PJ no need to watch the video can give you a run down as follows:-

Henderson - no better than Loach
Edwards - tries to do the work of two players
Chambers - ok
Higgibotham - caught the curse tonight
Cresswell - much better performance tonight
JET - JET
Reo-Coker - really struggled with pace of the game
Wellens - only a notch ahead of Reo-Coker, young Derby legs too much for the match fitness loanees
Drury - looked lost in the advanced midfield role
Martin - anonymous - dosent have a killer ball or a goal insticnt in his locker
Campbell - looks a threat, but would be even greater threat

Scotland/Chopra......................no comment

Jewell stumbled on a formula last year that saved him his job, he is not in my opinion an intelligent manager otherwise he would be learning from his mistakes.

Other than Paul Taylor, and the odd goal from the bench from Jason Scotland I see very little goal threat in our side. Most teams pushing for top six will be looking for a good complement of goals from 2 strikers and at least one midfield player I cannot see Chopra getting 15 goals and is Lee Martin capable of even 6? I like Loungo and I thought he was our best player tonight by a long way - that sums it up really a 19 year old loanee showing the way. I also just cannot see goals from our midfield.

We really deserve no better if we miss the type of chances we had tonight and continue to leak goals with the same regularity as last season.

Our crossing was also appalling and not just tonight. Edwards and Cresswell need to get forward more as they are potentially more dangerous than those that occupy the wide spaces in front of them.

Unfair to judge N'Daw on one performance, no doubt bags of experience and whilst I thought he was OK he hardly stamped his authority on the game for me.

Its a great shame that the encouraging signs get washed over with his defeat. Honesty before today tells us this team will struggle to compete for a top six place but is capable of some good performances which will hopefully keep us well away from danger. We shouldn't look to making anyone a scapegoat as well - Tommy Smith will have some great games this season and will have some games where he will make mistakes.

The brutal truth is that the spine of the team has still not been sufficiently strengthened, we look weak from scoring goals from midfield and whilst Chops can be a potent finisher we don't have a cutting edge or a physical presence up front to make the centre backs know they have been in a game.

I offer up the following quote from the Derek McInnes the Bristol City manager - given that Bristol survived by the skin of their teeth last season they will be a useful club to compare ourselves against for progress - the two signings quoted with an ambitious Chief Executive and Owner could have been wearing the blue of Ipswich.

"We are getting goals from the middle of the park, which we didn't do last season and now have some great options up front.
"With Sam [Baldock] and Steve [Davies] on board, we have a lot of different strikers, who pose threats in various ways. All the clubs I have been at, who were successful, had good strength in depth when it came to strikers.
"It is very early days, but after last season I'm delighted to be challenging at the right end of the table even at this stage of the campaign."

I will try and give an unbiased report.

Murphy didn't boss the midfield, after Blackburn scored they lied deep surrendering possession and allowing Ipswich a lot of the ball. Town tried to keep their passing going and all credit didn't allow themselves to be frustrated into a hoofball game, having said that long balls would have been totally pointless with the lack of height we had in the side.

Hyam was undoubtedly man of the match and shook up the Blackburn midfield. Massimmo grafted and put in another good shift but didn't quite have the influence that he had shown in previous games, having said that an early booking for him may have taken the edge of his sharp tackling game and being substituted was possibly partly a precaution to avoid a red card.

Apart from ball watching for the goal, Smith and Chambers continued to work well together against let's not forget some players with premiership reputations and overall a side that had a big physical presence.

Jet and Josh are both young players and will show signs of inconsistency unfortunately both had off days and failed to make any sort of impact.

Its a shame that Carlos is firstly shackled by his full backs duties, I can't help thinking that if we had had a decent right back on the bench (and perhaps Hewitt will be the answer here when he finally gets fit) then tactically we could have pushed Carlos more forward. He still to me looks as if he could provide the more purposeful option as right midfield/winger at the club leaving Jet and Carson to fight for the other wide slot.

Chopra was shackled and mostly ineffective until he put the defence under pressure for the own goal, in a team with the right balance he will score many goals for us, but for me he struggles to cut it for the lone striker. Jason did make an impact by giving us bit of a physical presence and again I don't doubt he will make some valuable contributions for us this year but again I see him struggling in the loan strikers role.

Having said all the above I thougt the young team acquiited themselves excellently against an experienced and former premiership side. So there is much to be encouraged by. My concern is lack of goal threat and pace in the forward third of the pitch. Whilst Lee Martin caught the eye again in his better position of the main striker I still don't see an end product and he has to be looking to get ten or more goals to be successful in my opinion in that position. I can't help thinking that a Davis and Baldock would give us a great edge of sides in this league,

I do think we will acquit ourselves well with the extra energy and enthusiasm of the young side but need a bit more in the "powerhouse" stakes to push anywhere near a top six side.

Anyway well done lads and let's now see if we can lay the 1atford bogey and see if we can come away with at least a point.

Crisp movement of the ball for long periods of the match switching play from side to side. No panic when we went a goal down, the young lads in the engine room kept going and sticking to a passing game rather than hoof ball. Young Loungo gets my man of the match simply because he makes things happen, keeps the team revving, always available even in tight situations and also gets stuck in. Dare I say he reminds me very much of another antipodean i.e. Colin Viljoen (I think South Africa qualifies for that label in addition to Oz& NZ) and outstanding midfielder one - nicknamed ACE who wore the Town shirt with distinction for many years and went on to be fully capped by England. Hyam was excellant too and seems to be extended the range of his reportoire and him Loungo looked a very good combination together - with Andy Drury to come back as well!!!. I do though think Lee Martin looks wasted on the left wing and needs to be returned to the position of hassling the two centre halves and sitting behind the striker. Good performances from Chops and Jason and whilst they were lively I can;t just help sensing that their reading of the game needs to improve alot as Brizzle should have been dead and buried well before the 86th minute from the football we played. Unless we start to punish teams we will be back to a couple of seasons ago when we outplay teams for 90 minutes and lose it or throw it away at the death.
