Anyone got any thoughts on VAR?
at 16:32 22 Apr 2024

I had my first 'in stadium' experience on VAR yesterday. As I was lucky enough to be in the Coventry end at Wembley.
It was utterly depressing to have that moment taken away at 4-3. There was a fella in front in tears, thinking he had seen his team into an FA Cup Final, only for it to be taken away by a toe nail. About 5 minutes later.
I'm still not sure we have the technology available to make such marginal offside calls either, how can they draw a line on a zoomed in blurry image and know that's the precise end of a players toe?

Another problem is decisions in football are very rarely black and white. Handballs and fouls will always have a form of personal opinion to them. By adding VAR you're essentially adding another persons opinion into the mix, rarely providing much clarity to the situation.

No threat in the middle of the box
at 15:51 11 Apr 2024

We were poor in the wide areas last night. The few time we managed to get in behind it did happen we weren't clinical enough with the final ball. Hutchinson especially, did the hard work and then didn't find a teammate. Davis another one guilty of being wasteful, he looks bloomin knackered though.
The writing was on the wall when Taylor got on the end of one, only to smash it straight at Broadhead.

Got to feel sorry for middle england
at 12:37 5 Mar 2024

I don't get the impression he is asking anyone to feel sorry for him. Obviously people on lower incomes have it a lot tougher.
But I do think it's highlighting a few issues that apply a lot of people in the same boat. Essentially they have a household income of 74k.
His wife hasn't gone back to work to look after their two children. The extremely expensive childcare costs are not helping this, especially if you don't have grandparents or dependents to help you.
Inflation/ high interest rates- has squeezed everyone. But with fiscal drag, the middle earners are paying more taxes, higher mortgage rates, more for heating bills etc. At the end of the day, you budget in line with your earnings. In the last two years, there has been an extreme unexpected financial squeeze for everyone. Especially bad timing if you've just had children.
I think we have an issue in this country for wasting time in pointing and shouting at who has it worse etc. Rather than actually putting that energy into who is causing this issues in the first place...

Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari!

The only other alternative option I can see Mercedes going with is someone like Ocon, as I think Toto is his manager.
But I think that depends on whether they see Russell as a team leader yet.

Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari!

Biggest move in the sport since he left McLaren all those years ago. I think he's always said how he always wanted to drive for Ferrari, so probably saw this as his last chance
to do so.

Very interested to see who Mercedes replace him with, Lando has just signed a new deal at McLaren but he must surely be the favourite.

Broadhead - Why he's good when not so good
at 12:00 24 Jan 2024

I think Broadhead is an instinctive player, good in tight situations without much time. It's when things have opened up for him when he's struggled to find the right finish or pass.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing recently.

I don't think strange kick off times help, as most of the 'big games' in our league especially are moved to lunchtime kick offs, but it's definitely more noticeable how quiet most grounds are becoming.

Even when watching Bournemouth vs Liverpool the other day, you could argue its one of B'mouths biggest games of the season and it sounded dead (even at 0-0).

To any other London based fans who are unable to go to the game tomorrow. The Antelope in Tooting Broadway are showing the game in the sports room out back. They open at 12pm, if anyone fancies it, do feel free to come by. COYB!

This next block of games looks daunting
at 14:39 14 Dec 2023

I went to the QPR game last night and they were woeful. Should've been 2-0 down before the sending off, completely toothless going forward. We should beat them comfortably.

I think we'll get 4 points out of the next 3 games. Beat Norwich, draw at Leeds and I do think Leicester will have too much for us.

3-2 Town win, think we're due a high scoring away game.

Outside bet: Chappers to score a chip.

Goes to show how many brilliant goals we've scored already this season. I had completely forgotten about Jackson's vs Stoke.

Racked up a load of fines on a PCN and had no idea - any chance of an appeal?
at 10:57 4 Dec 2023

I had the same problem a little while back in the Hammersmith area, they're adding in lots of these 'local's only' roads in London now, but rather cleverly not telling anyone.

I appealed and saying I was unaware of the new road layout and got let off. I appreciate though that you're in a bit more of a tricky situation and once money has been handed over, it's difficult to get back. Do definitely appeal though, pleading ignorance may well do the trick. It also might be worth getting in touch with Citizens Advice as well, having dealt with them in the past through work, I know they don't look on this kind of method of collecting a 'debt' very lightly. Especially at what seems like an extremely inflated price.
Good luck!

So if the worst happens
at 12:37 10 Nov 2023

I'm also intrigued to how we use the January window, I can't imagine GC are going to pass at the opportunity of adding to the squad if we're still in the mix, unlike Evans in 2015.

Like another poster alluded to, if we don't go up I think we're going to struggle to hold onto Davis, Wolfie and maybe even Broadhead, if they keep performing. Throw in Williams and Hutch will be pushing for a prem moves too. However, if we do lose these players I can see us investing heavily to replace them. This is the one area we haven't really seen Ashton prove himself in yet. Fingers crossed it won't be the Coventry route!

The biggest issue of all though is if a big Prem team come calling for McKenna (I think is a case of when, not if), the whole complexion of everything could look very different in the summer if so.

Lots and lots of hypotheticals in there, but who gives a duck cause the town are going up!

Luke Woolfenden...

He's been brilliant for sure. I think having a consistent spine of Vlad, Wolfie, Morsy and Hirst has laid a foundation for the rest of the team to play off, even if some are having an off day.

28,000 turned up last night, probably most expecting another win- me included.

Fulham for the most part played us off the park, changes or not I don't think you can completely avoid it, just a slight reality check of how much further the squad has to go.

It's a bit of a different proposition this season though. We played from the back last season, but teams sat off us for whole part, making the ball playing GK less crucial.
This season, pretty much every team have come at us with a aggressive high press, which Vlad has brilliantly been able to pass around much more comfortably, something which Walton just isn't able to match imo.

A bit of a humbling and a reminder of what level we want to get to.

We didn't ever really get going, a lot of heavy legs and Fulham were just much sharper than us across the pitch.

Shame we conceded so early and with quite a bizarre bit of defending.

Felt sorry for Clarke, didn't look comfortable at left back and was given a torrid time by Wilson.

Axel, can tell he hasn't played for yonks. I think it will be a slow process getting him into the first team. I did laugh when he wiped out Clarke in the final min.

Walton, didn't cover himself in any glory. Could've done better with 2 goals and thought his distribution was pretty poor, Vlad will be sleeping easy tonight.

Shame Baggot and Humphreys didn't start tbh, but a nice moment for the former to get on the scoresheet.

Onwards to Brum on Saturday!

I remember Neil Alexander doing very well too, seemed to save quite a few penalties.
