We just pick and choose don’t we - huge commodity producers Russia, Iran, Venezuela are all heavily sanctioned. The EU will be pushing forward with tariffs on China soon anyhow. The German car industry is lobbying heavily as China floods the EU with cheap EV’s. We did far more damage to our economy by leaving the single market than we would adding trade barriers with China. Trump will also reignite a trade his trade war with them if (when?!) elected, though not for any moral reasons - it will be because of the strong dollar. |

That’s true, but every club has a diaspora to a lesser or greater extent. Very few teams have 3 largely uncontested (in terms of big clubs) counties. |

We aren’t going to eat into London teams support, certainly not in the next 5-10 years. East Anglia is part of the club’s identity- but that’s fine, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, and Essex is a huge catchment area. Hence why a town of 200,000 can sell out in league one, and attract over 55k to a bus parade. |
| Forum Reply | Ekwah & Ballard - Sunderland... at 14:32 8 May 2024
The locals seem less than enamoured by Ekwah, be surprised if we were in for him. Poor coaching hasn’t helped, but other than Clarke none of their team has ripped up trees this season. Suspect we’ll be linked with hundreds of players this summer- and if we’ve learned anything it’ll most likely be ones we had no idea we were interested in! |

You have to have democracy, for it to be undermined mate. |

The stakes didn’t feel as high to me this year - I’ve loved the Championship, utterly bonkers and competitive league. Last year was the overwhelming dread of failure, and another season of Wycombe, Fleetwood, and teams bringing 300 fans and a dog to PR. Banter Era died with the takeover - these are serious people with a serious plan. |

Thanks for sharing. Another rogue nation we trade with due to our limp politicians. When they aren’t brutalising the Uyghurs, they are hacking the MoD and undermining our parliament. China should be under sanctions, and heavy tariffs on importing their goods (for the good of the planet also). |

Rooney is out of work, sign him up. Plus he has great relations with England fans, going as far as calling them ‘loyal supporters’ after another feeble World Cup showing… |

20m gets you 1 PL quality player. Alex Scott and Wharton cost that without even kicking a ball in the PL. No way will Gamechanger restrict spending to 20/25m (unless you meant net, and we sell Davis for 40m?). |

“There seems to be a majority view that we won't be spending much..” That really comes down to how you define ‘much’. I imagine the sums will be stratospheric compared to what we’ve spent in the last couple of years, but minuscule compared to Arsenal. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us spend £20m on a players, it doesn’t get you much these days. I think the key will be signing players that are going to be an asset on the balance sheet, with greater resale value, I.e no Dele Ali’s/Jesse Lindgard’s. |

It’s getting to the point where so many clubs are getting, or on the verge of getting points deductions, that you have to ask what is the point of it all. You may as well spend what you want safe in the knowledge that any breach will see the penalty reduced on appeal, or have the lawyers tied up in knots for years. |
| Forum Reply | Liam Rosenior sacked at 14:09 7 May 2024
There’s no doubting he underachieved with the big names they brought in. However, it was hardly disastrous form, looks like a case of BWYWW. Look at the dire season Sunderland had after sacking Mowbray, and Birmingham with Eustace. Seems utterly shortsighted to me, sure Rosenior will find another role easy enough. |

More comfortable than I could have dreamed of, made it look like a training match. And great to see Burns net the goal that put our place in the PL beyond doubt, after all the drivel Frimley has posted about him for the last couple of years ! |
| Forum Reply | Raise a glass to Paul Cook at 08:32 4 May 2024
Surely we should raise a glass to Ashton getting the deals done, and the Americans funding them. Cook scribbling a few names down on the back of a fag packet is about the sum total of his achievements at Town. |
