Not every day we'd get to see what a player is like for a week or two in training first, so if we sign him, then it'll be because he has been checked and has done well.
Don't know why people are worried about him playing for Skoda Xanthi. If it was Lada United, then I'd be worried...

You kind of feel like somethings got to give here to break the stailemate. I can't see anyone coming in with £45000 a week to take him off Hulls hands. If Hull demand that, they may be stuck with him in the reserves again. The same will happen if Bullard wont take a cut and no one comes in for him. I thought QPR would have come in by now as I think they were favourites. I know technically they all have every right to stick by their guns etc etc but it is a shame to see talent wasted on the sidelines. |

I remember the Leeds trial very, very well, which some on here clearly do not, or choose not to. Woodgate looked visibly shaken and remorseful and humiliated. He clearly looked like he learned his lesson, and was a different player after that. I actually respect him for that. Boyer looked his cocky self and signed autographs to stupid Leeds fans outside the court, after an Asian student ended up fighting for his life in a coma, having been set upon by a group of men down an alleyway. Even though they were let off, it didn't show much respect did it. Leeds spent millions on their defence, went bust soon afterwards, and most of the players they worked so hard to defend then cleared off straight away.
I feel very strongly about this. Yes it was some time ago, but his record hasn't been great since. Woodgate on the other hand had been exemplary. And I am sick and tired of people putting football above all else and not caring what people have done, or how the victims or their families feel, just because they can kick a ball. Some players have committed horrific crimes. For instance, ask yourself, How would you feel if a player had killed or raped or harmed someone you knew? Would you be saying flippant comments like ah but its in the past, let he who cast the first stone, etc, etc. Would you cheer if they scored a goal for your team?
I am sorry for sounding harsh and unforgiving, and getting on my soapbox. I am normally really positive about players we are linked to and back them all the way. And I am not talking about every crime or incident. We all make.mistakes. But when people are hurt, or people don't care, it annoys me. In this country, people all moan about criminals and thugs being given an easy time, and victims bring ignored, but when its a footballer, it doesn't matter, and we defend them, because if they score a goal for our team, then that's fine...
Ipswich Town is better than this.
And if he does joint us, and if he does score, damn right I will not be standing up cheering. |

I think this is a brilliant signing if we actually have him!!!!
Cannot believe all this stuff about Fullbacks needing to be tall!!! Since when??? I have always thought they had to be shorter and good tacklers and good with the ball to stop wingers and get up the pitch themselves. We have tried the 4 tall gangly blokes across the back a la Keano and it did not work. I was brought up watching Mills & Burley, then Yallop. All not 6 footers. There was also Kenny Sampson.
People have already mentioned Ashley Cole. So I looked up the world top ten full backs. Seven of them are about 5'7" to 5'9", including Patrice Evra, Luis Fhilipe, Sanga, Daniel Alves, Philipp Lahm...
I agree we need height in the team, but in the right places, not necessarily Full Backs. |

Agree with most. Really sad if he does go, which I think he will now. But on the other side is that the money we get will be more than useful right now. Would rather it happen now than right at the end of the transfer window when all the best players have gone. Also if we hang onto him after all this hype, he will become a target for some of the bruisers and thugs (we've all seen the types of teams and players who just kick lumps out of people) in the Championship, and could end up injured here anyway. |
