Bullard Included on Hull Trip
Bullard Included on Hull Trip
Saturday, 9th Jul 2011 09:09

Former Town loanee Jimmy Bullard has joined the Hull City squad for their pre-season tour of Slovenia. It had been reported that the 32-year-old would be left out of the trip as the Tigers look to offload the midfielder and his £45,000 weekly wage, but with no deal currently in the offing, Bullard, who has two years left on his contract, is being included in Hull’s preparations for 2011/12.

Yesterday, it was reported that the East Yorkshire club had turned down a loan offer from QPR for Bullard with the Tigers only prepared to agree to a further short-term deal if Rangers or another interested party were paying all the one-time England call-up’s wages.

City’s head of football operations Adam Pearson says that with no move currently on the cards, his club's £5 million 2009 signing from Fulham has joined the travelling party: "The situation with Jimmy is that he's gone to Slovenia as part of the first team squad and I genuinely can't see that changing.

"We've had a bit of interest from QPR, as has been widely reported, but that hasn't come to anything.

"Jimmy is fit, he's come back in good shape and he's part of the first team plans for sure. He looks to have a smile on his face and let's hope he can play a part for us."

Despite manager Paul Jewell ruling the Blues out of the race for Bullard’s signature earlier in the summer, the large fee achieved for Connor Wickham may have changed that situation and Town could be monitoring developments regarding last season’s Player of the Year. Earlier in the week, Bullard said a return to Portman Road would make him a "very happy man".

The Town squad, who are continuing pre-season training at Playford Road today, are due to fly out to Holland for their two-game tour on Sunday. Jewell’s men face FC Eindhoven on Tuesday and Den Bosch on Thursday.

Elsewhere, released midfielder Reggie Lambe has failed to win a contract with his former loan club Bristol Rovers. The Bermudian international played for the Pirates in a friendly against Mangotsfield United on Wednesday but failed to impress new boss Paul Buckle.

I cant quite believe that we haven't got him in yet, after the massive impact he made here. Sorry, but Boateng and Bowyer are not in the same class and he's younger!

Another opportunity for JB to toss his golden locks and flirtatiously hint that he would love to play for one of the great Slovenian teams like NK Maribor or FC Koper and how such a move would make him a "very happy man" in the hope that he can get a game somewhere next season!

Steal him from Slovenia ;)

Could be a risk for Hull. As Bullard is injury prone and if he gets injured during training or in a match.

Nobody will want him.

Saw him out last night in Mayfair - when are they going to Slovenia?

Would Jimmy accept a pay-off from Hull to finalise his contract - say £1Mn - and then accept Town's wages of £10k per week for 2 years OR carry on at Hull for the next 2 years on £45k per week? Personally, I would stay at Hull. Difficult problem brought about by Hull giving such a ridiculous contract in the first place. It's Hull's problem to come up with a solution, but their alleged current stance is making it difficult, almost impossible. If QPR can't do a deal with Hull, who can?

According to Barry Fry (!!!) Neil Warnock isn't allowed to make a deal with anyone, they can't even finalise signing Brian Murphy. The longer he stays at Hull the better our chances

Obviously there's no way on earth we should be prepared to pay the full £45k a week. Would be amazing though if something could be sorted out, even if it was just a season-long loan.

None of the large fee for Wickham should be spent on the excessive wages of a 33-year-old. I like Bullard, but a deal should only be done if it is good value for money for us. The £45K-a-week contract is Hull's problem. Let them pay his pre-season tour hotel and food bills too. :-)

Odds of Bullard remaining at Hull next season - playing reserve team football at best? Looks like Hull's reluctance to pay him off may spoil any deal for potential suitors - however if JB and Hull do agree a deal, Jimmy will no doubt join a QPR.

You kind of feel like somethings got to give here to break the stailemate. I can't see anyone coming in with £45000 a week to take him off Hulls hands. If Hull demand that, they may be stuck with him in the reserves again. The same will happen if Bullard wont take a cut and no one comes in for him. I thought QPR would have come in by now as I think they were favourites. I know technically they all have every right to stick by their guns etc etc but it is a shame to see talent wasted on the sidelines.

Pearson is just playing hardball until the transfer window's about to close, someone will take him on a higher % at that point in the last few crazy days of desparate transfer action ...... doing a deal now isnt going to get the best deal from Hulls point of view, theyre playing a game, and someone will take him on a decent % of his wages, if they dont, they always know we'll have him on 20k a week or so......so they have a Best Case = full wages, middle case = someone pays 30k or so, last resort, we get him in the last hour or two of the window, on the same deal as before..... think thats the reality of it......

Maybe if Hull had played him last season they would have made the play offs
Hull are in a good position as they have a great player or an indavidual who they could sell

if no one buys him by the time the window shut then I could see a six month loan deal on similair terms to last year happening

Why can't JB agree a deal with Hull to extend his current contract over say 4 years instead of the present 2 years, this would mean halving his payments to around £22k a week, surely that would allow us to be able to do a deal with him if he is genuine in saying he would take a pay cut.

For goodness sake lets all forget about JB and his dodgy knees. We don't want him back as he is so injury prone. The proof being that in his few short weeks here last season he missed 4 or 5 matches through injury and on the wages he would want thats a risk I wouldn't like to see the club take.PLEASE lets move forward and don't keep on wanting him back because he doesn't really want to come back.

45k a week must include appearance fees, win bonuses etc, hence Hulls reticence to play him. I should imagine his "do nothing" salary in more like £30k.

This is getting tedious now. Lets move on. I hate the game nowadays, where money is everything.
"I just want to play footy" sticks in my head as a comment from Bullard.
You're a liar mate.

There is no doubt that JB made a big difference to the team on his loan spell.
He was well aware that the fans had taken him to their hearts

SO, how disappointed was I when he spoke on Soccer AM in a quite flippant about our Club. He sounded almost disrespectful.

It made me realise that its all about the money.
