Bit of a dilemma…
at 17:33 28 Oct 2022

My lad did Ipswich EPDC and Norwich PDC at U8s.
Had to go to Bury for Norwich as that was where GK centre was. He liked the Norwich coaching didn't enjoy Ipswich so stopped it. Then the Norwich GK coach left so decided not to continue with either.
It was a lot of money and time. Last season u9 he wasn't at any of them and managed to get a 8 week trial at town. Sadly unsuccessful but was great experience for him.

Was offered place in town ATC for this season but turned it down due to cost and the traveling to Needham.

Happy playing grassroots ironically also Kestrels. If you have the money and he enjoys give it a go. I know a few who are in Norwich Elites and they have got to play up at the academy a few times.

And yes the gap between ATC and academy is huge let alone between EPDC and academy. My lad played against ATC while on trial and they beat them 23-2 and they had an extra player most of the game.

As long as he is enjoying his football that is the main thing.

So we have a goalkeeper.

Am I going to get whooshed here? Both those keepers were exactly 6ft. Both absolutely superb keepers amazing in fact both would have been released due to lack of height in today's academies.

With your contacts Phil you could get him a trial. Paul Lambert didn't fancy him as he wanted his keepers to play out from the back.
Although if we think Cornell is small we might be even more disappointed with my lad's stature!

My 8 year old lad scored a goal from his drop kick yesterday. He could solve both our goalkeeping issues and our goal scoring issues!

I agree. Was interesting. Not surprised Judge didn't want to get involved.

Surprised the red card has got rescinded
at 18:33 4 Mar 2021

I said at the time I thought it was a genuine attempt within
the interpretation of the law and was surprised he gave a red. Lots on here disagreed. In that situation defender deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt. Bit of luck for us especially as we missed the pen.

Stonewall penalty and red card and about as bad a penalty as you’ll see
at 19:45 2 Mar 2021

I only saw it the once and to me he was trying to the win ball. I think in that situation then if there is doubt you give it to the defender. I would like to see it again.

Norwich have 3rd keeper in goal for second half
at 18:32 30 Dec 2020

The lad is 20 on Saturday but that is by the by. In the end of the day Lambert has been unable to choose a keeper over his entire time at the club. In his last interview on the subject he still had to criticise his current keeper's kicking. Lots of managers know very little about keeping and what a good or bad keeper looks like. Listening to pundits on TV about keeping is cringy Mr Souness in particular. Therefore lots of young keepers get their chance only when there quite literally is no-one else. I have no idea on Wright's ability but we are unusual in having two similar levelled ability keepers challenging each other. Without looking it up I would imagine few clubs have swapped their keepers around as much as we have had over past few seasons.

What business of the PFA's is the salary cap?
at 09:48 8 Aug 2020

They have a bigger budget (total) because they have to employ more staff, last time I checked a football team has 11 players on the pitch whether it is Premier League or League One.

London schools have bigger budget per pupil as the salary structure for teachers provides a London premium due to the high cost of living there and the difficulty recruiting staff.

Salary Cap bollox musings

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-7920627/Saracens-salary-cap

I think Saracens came up with a range of ways to get around the cap. Still caught in the end.
If we decided to break it other clubs would break it more and we would still lose out, it is the Evans way.
The club knew the cap was coming in. They could have bought players, they could have offered Jackson his new contract, they didn't. I don't think Evans will be that angry about this cap. Certainly gives something to hide behind.

We should spend more money on academy, analysts etc and get in a decent management team and structure. He can spend money in other areas improve training facilities, improve Portman Road and the fan experience.

A few fans have said why should well run club should be punished, but we aren't well run we make a substantial loss every thing. Sunderland massive losses year after year and Portsmouth fans have a nerve about well run and being punished with the cap after how they bought their success in recent years.

Do we conduct any European scouting at all?
at 21:46 7 Aug 2020

Community Trusts coaching feeds into academy. Have to be 9 before join club academy so clubs offer coaching to a wide range of abilities for younger kids in the hope of finding players. We have let Norwich and Colchester come into our area and we have tried to address by introducing the Community Trust this season but from what I gather those clubs are still offering a superior product.

can anyone explain the salary cap?
at 21:36 7 Aug 2020

But it hasn't. If they are good enough they get employed if they are not they don't. As someone who worked in an industry in one part of the country where there was a massive oversupply and got one interview in seven years vs another part of country which I got two interviews and two job offers in two days, that is life. I would be amazed if a court of law said a salary cap was a restraint of trade. But I only manged a half a law degree 20yrs ago. So I might be wrong.

A salary cap is simply a budget tool and is currently in operation in other sports in the UK. Some sports for example local cricket don't allow paid players is that a restriction of trade?

The ECB have now said Irish cricketers are now classified as overseas players so they can't play in England even if they are British. Is this a restraint of trade? Arguably more than the salary cap situation.

Our problem isn't the salary cap it is a massively overpaid manager who has mismanaged the club and a clueless owner who appointed him along with every manager bar Mick.

But that is still not a restraint of trade in the legal sense. It is individual based not club. The club can still trade. Ultimately it is up to the the competition rules. In this case voted for by the participants. For example in cricket the local league says no paid players. I am a talented cricketer that should be paid, is that a restraint of trade? Remember we as a club had a wage bill over 100% of income in the championship and still we had one of the lowest in the league. If we were in championship we would be begging for the 18m limit. We would be begging for 12m!

Ps I am not talented cricketer worthy of pay.

Sorry but you are wrong with schools unless within London will have similar budgets. They are based on kid numbers. Hence why it is easier to recruit teachers in say Liverpool than it is in Suffolk because supply exceeds demand due to cheaper cost of living.

Do you think? Up until last summer we were the only club out of 92 without a community trust. At my kid's club the two best players are down at Colchester because the coaching is so much better. They were at Town. Another goes to the Norwich sessions in Ipswich. I wish I shared your optimism.
