I was one of only 3 town fans on a pre season tour of Norway in 1984 and got invited by Bobby Ferguson to have a meal with the players. Sat opposite PM and asked him what he thought of potential signing Cor Lems. He replied “Couldn’t trap a bag of cement”. Happy days.
I was at the 1982 tournament in Florida. Can remember it was just after the Falklands so sang a few jokey songs at a couple of São Paulo fans (Brazil close enough to Argentina) much to the locals amusement. Best memory was a chat with Sir Bob and Cyril Lea about the upcoming England mangers role. Can’t remember much about the games I’m afraid.
I was there. Can remember trying to get out ASAP to avoid embarrassment. The world seemed to have caved in. If we got a draw now would be viewed as good. Sad times.
Lost 0-3 home to Leeds mid seventies. After their first goal our fans moved towards theirs (despite the fence in place) and I got swept along and ended up on the ground for what seemed like an age. Thought I was a gonner and could only breathe because of the step in the terraces but eventually got hauled up. Lost a shoe and had to get out of the stand to recover.
