Promotion is so close and yet....

I was messaging a few family and friends during the game and almost sent a 'that was a daft foul, hope that isn't costly' at that point but thought better of it, though clearly just thinking it sent bad vibes into the universe.

Same, I believe we can do it but just so fearful that we won't.

Think the fear/frustration/stress with last night, for me anyway, is that you can't quite escape the feeling that it could potentially sum up the season - so good for so much of it but just couldn't quite do enough to see the job through.

That the final equaliser came at a time we actually looked relatively comfortable (as opposed to the other two occasions we took the lead) and was a crap goal from our point of view (needless free kick giveaway, getting caught under the ball as it comes in, Hladky's weak attempt to push the header away) makes it sting a bit more and harder to solely focus on the positives.

Flip side is that the game was, on paper, the hardest of the 3 and we looked very very good in it. I worry people are putting too much stock in the 'Coventry are tired/depleted' narrative but we should have enough to get something there. Huddersfield no gimme either but we've put the bottom sides away at home with varying degrees of comfort this season already.

Just want to get it done now, won't be able to concentrate on anything else at all this week ffs.

Never seen McKenna react like he did for their equaliser before (n/t)
at 22:43 27 Apr 2024

Yeah he might have got past him then scored! Instead of that, they oh hang on...

There was still a chance to get back and deal with it, instead we gave someone of Carvalho's quality a free chance to put a delivery into the box. You can bet anything you like McKenna will be really annoyed by that.

Thought Sarmiento did well

That was great. Should have done better with the chance at the end and the one where Taylor laid it off to him - just rushed both of them a bit.

I can't remember a worse goalkeeping display.

A above, he gets it on the wrong foot and has to sort his feet out to get it away again. Yes he takes too long but to absolve Hladky of any blame is ridiculous.

He passed it to his weak foot as well. Morsy should definitely shift it quicker but as you say needlessly risky ball out when we just needed to see it out until HT. Thankfully Omari saved us at that point.

Happy with a point

Hull had nothing to lose and everything to gain really so were always going to chuck the kitchen sink at us. Am more annoyed we let the 3 points go because it was a really crap goal to concede from our point of view but think this was always going to be the toughest of the 3 matches left.

Well he wasn't right was he because he didn't need to make the foul and it gave them a free chance to get the CBs up and knock the ball into the box and they scored from it.

I bet he'll be really annoyed with Clarke giving away the free kick in the first place - really really stupid and it's cost us.

Definitely look dangerous but equally very gettable at the back on the break.

Tuanzebe on a yellow worries me - he's made some good interventions but made a couple of really stupid challenges. Wonder how long he lasts before Clarke comes on as Philogene will try his best to get a 2nd yellow from him.

Southampton finishing season like a wet fart (n/t)

Martin really doesn't seem like the sort of manager who gets his players running through walls for him, which is what you really need at this stage of the season.

So, Norwich and WBA for the wins today?
at 11:07 27 Apr 2024

Regardless of their position by that point, it's their final home game of the season, evening kick off, they'll be raring to go and finish their home fixtures on a high.

“Leicester are promoted, No-one can catch them now”?!!
at 22:51 26 Apr 2024

Pretty obvious they meant as in no-one can catch them to stop them getting promoted.

Hull game.
at 10:32 26 Apr 2024

Yeah think it will be one where we let them tire themselves out and really come into it in the 2nd half which we've done a few times this season.

Hopefully we can keep them out and get a goal or two on the counter then the end of the game becomes about controlling it rather than trying to chase a goal.

Just seen who West Brom are playing on Saturday…
at 21:01 25 Apr 2024

But if Leeds drop points tomorrow they could have overtaken them with a win - there'd be no reason for them to assume that wouldn't happen so therefore not give it all. The story of their changes is that they had injuries so had to make them.

If they'd have won they'd be 3 points off the team in 2nd who they still have to play. They had so much interest in that game and were awful.

Duff back to Barnsley?
at 13:56 25 Apr 2024

Reading the fan reaction yesterday it seemed the consensus was that he was heading for the exit at the end of the season (poor run of form - 3 wins in 12 since start of March, odd team selections, poor standard of football, talk of 'losing the dressing room', prickly comments in press etc.) but to get rid with 1 game (plus potential playoffs) left is very bizarre.

Seems like they think the board should have been more ruthless and sacked him several weeks ago.

Ah yeah, in my head was thinking a win and a draw from the 2 away matches would be fine but forgot about the last game in my calculations!

That would absolutely guarantee it, yes, and barring an improbable GD swing we'd have to do it if Leeds beat both QPR and Southampton.

Leeds dropping 2 points means 2 wins for us will be enough, if they drop 3 then a win and a draw will do it for us, if they completely fall apart and drop more than that then it'll only need 1 Town win.

The fact that Hull and Cov are both away might help us
at 13:16 24 Apr 2024

Dunno, can view it either way really. A packed, raucous PR on an evening could have given the players a big boost.

Hull will almost certainly have to throw the kitchen sink at us to go for a win unless they lose tonight and Norwich/West Brom make the maths for 6th impossible during the day on Saturday, but even still will want to go out on a high for their final home match of the season. That could either suit us or it could be another Blackburn but with better players attacking our goal.

Am with the consensus view though that winning that game will fill everyone with belief we can win the other two.
