Ryobi tools
at 13:30 9 May 2024

I’m happy with Ryobi. I’ve got a bit of their kit, a drill, a hedge cutter and so on.

All works very well, and seems to be of a higher quality than the other stuff I’ve bought.

Not being clear that you need to buy the battery is annoying, but then bundling a battery with anything else you buy from them, when you don’t really need it is wasting money.

I’ve got a number of Bosch batteries that have been bundled with stuff in the past, and that is something of a waste

Benchmarking against Burnley summer transfer action
at 22:13 7 May 2024

FPP and PSR stop you losing too much money. But if we get 100m+ in tv money, we won’t be losing the money. We will be spending our income.

Sure, our wage bill will go up a lot, we will invest in the stadium, the academy, the training ground and so forth, but we will spend a lot more on fees than people have realised.

Additionally we’ve just raised money through a share issue. Our investors haven’t given us money for it to sit in the bank. That is just wasting cash. And our old shareholders haven’t sold equity for no reason. They’ve raised the cash so it can be invested.

Last time we were in the PL we bought players for 4 and 5 million. Tv revenues have quadrupled since then. Expect our transfer budget to increase similarly

We are going to spend a lot more than £20m.

We have £130m coming in. What do you think we are going to do with it?

They signed 10 players and a further 5 in Jan, two costing over £20m

Eddie Nketiah rumours being picked up by more sources...
at 16:30 7 May 2024

8-9 seems right to me. But not all will be obvious starters.

We probably need to replace Walton and require cover at left back.
Then one or two youngsters like Al-Hamedi

Then we either need to sign or replace Moore, Hutchinson and Sarmiento.

That is 6-7 and we haven’t actually improved the first eleven at all.

I really don’t think it should be a closed shop.

The club needs to consider closing the gap between season ticket holders and everyone else. Currently STH get a lot of benefits and when their commitment to the club was unique that is great. When the ground could be sold out twice over it just has the effect of shutting out others.

If we get the number of season tickets below the cap by people not renewing, where they do have spare capacity, rather than sell one ticket to every game to the same person, I’d time-slice it. So two people could each go to half the games. Rather than have one person going to everything, and one having to scramble for tickets each week or keep their fingers crossed for the ballot. You’d have to ensure they were reasonably evenly split between the glamour clubs, but that should be doable.

Although we won’t have any spare season tickets for some time

This is very plausible, because it is well known journalists don’t make any inside information they have public, they just tell their friends

One factor is Hutchinson’s coming of age at the end of the season. Not just that he was pretty sensational. I hadn’t realised until I checked earlier that he started all of our last 10 matches. And he played the full 90 in a few of those.

But the fact he was only a sub for so long early in the season meant he was fresh, and had plenty of miles left in his legs. All worked out beautifully

(Edit: last 9 games, not 10)

I was just thinking how nice it will be watching the play-offs as a genuine spectacle for a change without any sense of bitterness that it should have been us … or the trauma of us being involved. Looking forward to them.
