For those not old enough to remember

We used to regularly field 10 internationals and Paul Cooper, who would have been if Shilton and Clemence weren't around.

Ipswich supporters in Ireland
at 17:34 5 May 2024

There's plenty of us and with the Roy and Mick connections I would say most football fans knew Ipswich before this year. We've had Irish players in our squad most years too. Though it's not like getting on a flight from Cork on a Saturday always packed with Manchester fans. Maybe it will be this year. Flights from Shannon full of Town fans to Stanstead.

What about with a manager in their first senior job. Not sure that has been done before.

He might pull a sickie. Laryngitis is the one. Then be incognito in his box.

Finances if we go up
at 14:19 3 May 2024

Stoke spent 10 years in the Premiership and when I was there for the first time on New Year's day it was shockingly run down with the City Centres one of the worst I have seen since going to Crew for a festival last year.

Finances if we go up
at 14:14 3 May 2024

No evidence of this huge local economic boost happening around Burnley, Sheffield, Nottingham, Stoke, to name a few. It just doesn't happen. In fact has anybody been to Liverpool recently or walked around Stanley Park. The vast club revenue is spent on players because if you don't you get relegated. Ipswich doesn't even have hotel capacity to even cater for this. The match day revenue for the town is pretty much maxed out. I always stay the weekend in Ipswich and playing a premiership team wouldn't increase spend. And too near to London for all the international lot to hang around. Not sure loads of people will book holidays in Suffolk because they saw inside PR when watching us play West Ham either. Brighton has huge hotel capacity that might mean extended matchday for a night stay. We just don't have that.

What the hell are we going to do at the end of the month
at 12:49 3 May 2024

Follow Clare Hurling. It fills the summer up nicely. Same drama too. Last Sunday 36 to 34 win in cork in front of 38K. Threw away a 9 point lead two weeks ago against equivalent of Man City in Hurling in front of 20,053 in Ennis in a ground that holds 19K. Nobody knows how that worked but it was full on the terraces to put it mildly. Google a few matches and all start supporting us. 26th is big game in Thurles assuming nothing else on that day of interest to Town fans.

New fans and returners
at 12:24 3 May 2024

I have been supporting since 70s and regularly travel from Ireland for matches. The new young fan base and returners is one of the best things about the last two years. My son travelled to matches from Ireland and didn't see us win for his first 10 matches. Why as a 11 year old would that be something he wanted to do every week. Why take up every weekend watching absolute dross football.
Last year he flew back from Albania to meet me at Barnsley. His first match for 8 years. He has started an informal supporters club in Galway this year in his local pub.
We were turning into the oldest fan base in the league. The returners and newbies are the future.

Shameless plea for Huddersfield tickets

The club have said any resales or returns are at the same priority level as the last sale window. They don't just move to general sale.

Last day muck
at 13:52 2 May 2024

I think that was the case. They didn't know what they needed during the game so they were all out for a win. It's retrospective saying they only needed a point. That's how it turned out but they didn'tknow that. We know we need a point. It's different.
Anyway, we are way better than that Derby team.

Bookies have us at 1/40 for a top two finish…
at 13:45 2 May 2024

Yes, a large over round on a 18/1 and 1/40 in a two event outcome. It's all built into the 1/40 which should be around 1/20. We are in the fortunate position of covering at decent price. Leeds fans have to cover their playoff expenses at 1/40 which can't realistically be a runner. But 20 at 18s is fine for us to pull in 360. If we lose the 20 then it really is a situation of who cares...
Even a 5 for everyone at least gives some bank for playoffs, if the worst happens. Which it won't.

1/40 is built in profit. They are saying in a hundred situations like this Ipswich will not be in top 2 between 2 to 3 times. But a stake to pay for playoffs if the worse happens, seems like a sensible cover.

Betfair have 10s for Huddersfield to beat us and 8/15 Leeds win which means a 6 perc chance. So we are 94 percent not 97 percent. If you can get 18/1 you are just in the side of value.

Officially the chance of Huddersfield and Leeds winning is 7 percent. So we are 93 percent chance of being promoted on Saturday.

Not sure I wish anything bad on those teams that will be realistically relegated. Birming6are a bit basket case, but we have all been there, Plymouth are our friends, Blackburn fans have to shop in Blackburn so they don't deserve anymore bad things. Huddersfield security when we were both in the championship before we were relegated did my son a favour at our away game, so no harm there.

Is there any stats on the beach theory. I think catching up games in hand is a bigger issue than the beach. I would be more concerned that the team you wanted to beat your rival was on a 5 games in 12 days than they were on the beach. Southampton proving my point, whilst Cov didn't look like they were on the beach tonight.
The stats would be interesting.
