| Forum Thread | Where I believe the problem lies at 09:16 22 Jan 2023
If I was the rate the team from yesterday on where I think they sit in the league system, it looks something like this: Walton - Top end League One (although admittedly he’s been performing as an average keeper in this league recently) Donacien - Average League One Woolfenden - Bottom End/Average Championship Burgess - Average League One Davis - Average Championship Evans - Top end League One Morsy - Average Championship Burns - Top end League One/Bottom end Championship Chaplin - Top end League One/Bottom end Championship Harness - Top end League One (albeit with very inconsistent performances Hirst - Haven’t seen enough but imagine top end league one I think this is where the real problem actually lies, rather than McKennas system or a mentality problem. For example, If you compare this team with the team Derby put out yesterday, I’m not sure you could seriously say it’s better in terms of quality as a number of their players have racked up a serious amount of games at a higher level. Of course, all of those ratings are subjective and merely my opinion, but I reckon a replacement for Donacien (Clarke will do nicely) and a replacement for Burgess would go a long way. It’s not just that I think they’re average league one players, but also in terms of style of play I think they’re a bit of a misfit for the demands that McKenna places on defenders in terms of capabilities on the ball. In addition to this, a bit more cutting edge at the top end of the pitch wouldn’t go amiss, and from what I’ve seen of Broadhead he could be just what the doctor ordered if he can stay fit, and hopefully Hirst can chip in too. A team like looking like this will accumulate the majority of the remaining points available IMO: Walton Clarke–Woolfenden–NEW CB–Davis Evans–Morsy Burns–Chaplin–Broadhead Hirst So to summarise, no need for drastic changes, but think some personnel tweaks are necessary to get the best out of McKennas tactical ideology. |

On three other occasions where Jackson has played wide left (Sheff W, Derby and Charlton) he has been pretty effective and had a decent impact on all of those games. Interestingly, in all three of those games TJJ has started as the central striker. I think yesterday those around Jackson (namely Chaplin and Ladapo) don’t have the passing ability to bring the best out of Jackson and find him in the space. |

I agree that we have not been good enough this season in the round too. However, there is significance in the fact that some of our more organised and resolute performances have been some of the most recent. Does this not show that some of the work done on the training ground is paying off? Of course, even the best teams can’t always translate that week in, week out and perhaps today shows that. It just seems that some on here always go on about Roberts, Craney and Jeffers lacking ‘experience’ and yet there isn’t a great deal of evidence to support it. |

So we had a bunch of poor performances/results at the beginning of the season mainly due to various pieces of the jigsaw missing (mainly a lack of Carroll/Morsy in my opinion as the Harper - Evans duo clearly doesn’t work). This was followed by three improved performances (especially in an organisational sense) and results which signified real improvement. How is the lack of coaching experience becoming more obvious game by game in this scenario? Seems like an over reaction to one defeat in my opinion. |

Well I would say Doncaster were getting a slight grip on the game prior to the change, threatening a goal back to change the dynamics of the game until Cook made the tweak. So to suggest that he doesn’t react to anything just isn’t true. |

That’s Harper, KVY did give it away initially though |

They have a squad much much better... I would take any of Williams, Harness, Jacobs or Curtis over any of our “creative players” |

Why are we playing lankester on the left and Edwards on the right, when switching them would surely be beneficial to them both. I just think they both look better cutting in towards goal - Edwards especially just doesn’t have the technique to cross! |
