Brighton Winger Sarmiento Set For Town Loan
Tuesday, 2nd Jan 2024 10:26

Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento is set to join the Blues on loan having been recalled from a loan spell at West Brom, according to a report in Ecuador which TWTD can confirm.

Sarmiento, 21, joined the Seagulls from Benfica in 2021 and has made five senior starts and 14 sub appearances for the Premier League club.

The 13-times-capped Ecuador international, who can play in wide roles or as a number 10, joined the Baggies on loan in July having signed a new contract with his parent club which runs to the summer of 2027.

While at the Hawthorns, Sarmiento made seven starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring twice, before Brighton announced his recall yesterday.

And, according to Ecuadorian journalist Maria Jose Flores, Sarmiento’s move to the Blues will be confirmed in the next few hours and could also extend into next season. We understand the switch is likely to be rubber-stamped either later today or tomorrow.

“Brighton interrupted Jeremy Sarmiento's loan due to the few minutes he has had with West Bromwich,” her tweet reads in English.

“The Ecuadorian continues to be one of Brighton's big projects for the future, which is why they have already agreed on a new loan.

“In the next few hours they will announce that Sarmiento will play six months for Ipswich Town, which is second in the EFL Championship.

“If they achieve promotion to the Premier League, the loan can be extended for another year, otherwise Jeremy will return to Brighton in June.”

Having been born in Madrid, Sarmiento moved to London as a seven-year-old and was with Charlton’s youth set-up before joining Benfica in 2018.

Prior to committing his international career to Ecuador, for whom he qualifies through his parents, Sarmiento won England caps at U16, U17 and U18 levels.

It's funny how people are so willing to question KM's recruitment plans. He's sure to make some mistakes in that and also in his team selections and substitutions, but we have to maintain reality and think would we really trust anyone else to do a better job? So whilst KM is not beyond criticism, it does feel like a whole lot of hobbyist trying to school the master.
3 losses in half a season is a good record, 2 or 3 duds out of all the players he has brought in is not a bad record.

Amazing some of the comments on here! So we have no confidence in KMcK and his staff on their scouting prowess because, let’s face it, it’s been an absolute shambles since they arrived. Given how meticulous they’ve been in their previous dealings and excepting that you’re not gonna get it right every time I for one have faith in what this lad has been brought in for.

This would be great. We were definitely missing a left sided player yesterday and even before his injury I was worried about the amount of minutes Davis was having to play. If we find a right sided Davis as well, then Clarke, Hutchinson, Burns and Williams will be on the bench.

Dirty you’ve been posting long enough to know what this platform is used for?
If we can’t debate/have our own opinions, may as well shut it down…..

I get we need to add quality all over the pitch this month but development of other teams players is frustrating. I see this as a replacement of Scarlett.

Anyone else think that buabo deserves a shot I think he looks like he can handle a few games.

Look at his record at Brighton. He was not played or played properly by WBA hence the recall. He will come to Ipswich and add a spark that has been lost of late and be played and used by a proper football team.

I haven’t a clue who this guy is but have great faith in the club knowing who they want. We are an attractive proposition to young players and a club that is trusted by those in the PL. Shame it didn’t work out well for Scarlett given the timing of Hirst’s injury.

Before we all start willy waving and jumping from the roof tops lets just see how he gets on (if we sign him)...I thought Hutchinson was a great loan signing but has been a bit disappointing of recent games.

I can understand that we need some recruitments...a proven goal scorer up top would be great.

Interesting last January we brought in Massimo Who Nathan Who George Who, Harry Clarke not bad for a bunch of nobody’s, who had heard of Omari before August, all young with miles in there legs, made a mistake with Scarlet, it’s pretty obvious put in the hard work or don’t play any part, after years of misery we now have excitement pretty much every week, watching players with skill

@EricsGate If he gets us into the Prem then we can buy whoever we like on a permanent deal....

And, in response to comments about Buabo, as KM has repeatedly said, he's nowhere near fit enough to play anything like 90 minutes yet, and we need someone in NOW.

Firstly Jeremy assuming the loan goes ahead welcome on board!
There will I trust be other transfers so lets wait and see the full picture before we start moving Broady into Hurst's spot! Given the lenghty duration of GH's absence I hope we do attract a good CF.

Huge potential. If it goes right could be the Martijn Reuser type players that can propel us to the Premier League. To compare more with that era we need a Marcus Stewart and a Tony Mowbray as well, perhaps a Fabian Wilnis or Jamie Clapham for depth, although Leif shouldn't be out for too long. As far as cover for Morsy, I think we need to work with what we've got for games he's suspended.

Sarmiento is an impact player, will probably start from the bench at first, hopefully will progress to starting. A goal maker more than a scorer, can play on the left or in the hole. Not a replacement for Hirst, but that additional forward player we've been calling for. Hopefully with more minutes on the pitch can develop well and nab a few goals as well - at the moment his opportunities have been somewhat wasteful, but KM knows how to develop potential and has a good eye for underappreciated talent.

Don't know much about the lad so will judge him when i see him in the flesh. Remember Massimo couldn't even get on the bench at Middlesborough and he worked out ok. As for Broadhead playing up front on his own more chance of Hladky doing that. He hasn't got the physicality or strength to hold the ball up and is not comfortable with his back to goal or with aireal duels his best work is when running at defenders from deeper positions . We will get another striker in possibly someone who hasn't been mentioned .

It's quite obvious why we are bringing this name in....new song required and blue action will surely deliver!

It looks as if he is a replacement for Scarlett not Hirst.

To those who say that this lad has failed at WBA, I would remind them that Hirst had an underwhelming spell at Blackburn before coming here and yet he worked out OK.

Some weird and wonderful opinions as always, obvious that some have never been involved in the game, other than from a watching / supporter point.
But each to their own, and time as always will prove a point.

The usual negative narrative every time we sign a player! Really can’t be bothered to get into it, all I will say is, our style of football is poles apart played by West Brom ..just maybe the lad will flourish in an attack minded team!
