Town boss Kieran McKenna says no further additions to his squad are imminent but that work will continue until the end of the window to find players who will improve the squad at the right price.

So far, the Blues have added four players, Jack Taylor, Cieran Slicker, George Hirst and loanee Omari Hutchinson, but with CEO Mark Ashton having recently said he anticipates two or three more recruits before the window closes on September 1st.

“I don’t think there’s anything very imminent,” McKenna said. “Of course, this has been a very busy week for myself and the coaching staff with three games in the first six days.

“Once we get through Saturday, it will be a good time to sit and review where we’re at with a couple of weeks to go on the window and having seen everybody play now and also having gone through the first two Championship games.

“The club are still working very hard, I’m involved in that work as well, but at the moment the situation is the same as it was.

“We have a big and competitive squad, we want to improve that squad, there aren’t so many players out there at the right price that can improve what we have here but we’ll work very hard until the last day of the window to find those players and bring them here.”

WhoisJimmyJuan added 17:27 - Aug 11 I'm still haunted by summer 2011: Jay Emmanuel Thomas, Chopra, Bullard, Bowyer, Ingimarsson all signed and thinking we would walk the league. It taught me about quality over quantity, value for money and managing expectations. We saw at Sunderland that we should be able to compete in this division as we are so no panic yet as far as I'm concerned.

But the key to this is that MA said last week that until the parachute clubs start trading (Leicester, Leeds and Southampton), nothing much would happen. And don't forget the 25 man squad limits don't kick in until today for the PL clubs, so people are expecting news yesterday when the deals ares till a bit away. Southampton now appear to be selling a couple, Leeds look like they are about to start and it will all start to flow. We aren't buying from Fleetwood Town and more, our targets are in the PL and the clubs who've just come down. Leif signed two weeks into the season last year because thats what doing business in the PL means. Chill out and stop being impatient

parhamblue added 17:33 - Aug 11 He actually said "two or three at least" in an interview in Innsbruck and so that is probably a strong indication that one or two (or more) haven't materialised. It's ironic, isn't it? The one time in our club's history when there hasn't been a financial constraint internally, the ante is upped, again. It simply puts more of an onus on the coaching, the know-how, the smooth running of the club that we all enjoy today, and the near-certain knowledge that the journey will continue to be fruitful. The B's Brighton, Bournemouth, Burnley and Brentford are proving that you don't need kazillions or oilfields, it is as much about technique and application. For now, at least.

Teams like Leeds, Leicester, and Soton have much more financial clout via their parachute payments. It looks as if we haven't been able to get the first choice players we wanted in some cases, but also that we are not going to fill in spaces in the squad unless the management thinks this will improve performance. We have a great tactical manager, a great team spirit, and great support. We can go a long way with that, even if no-one else comes in (although I think we will get one or two more additions). COYB!

terryf added 18:10 - Aug 11 Yes I agree that ridiculous prices are the sticking point, but I guess if we want some of these better players we are going to have to compromise now that we are in the Championship. It does kind of ask the question if Ashton says a lot of preparation is done months beforehand and dealings are advanced...what does this actually mean in reality, as I guess there have been players going elsewhere that we would have liked onboard. The bottom line is that there are so many factors, prices, players wages and whether the selling club are playing hard ball. Unfortunately regardless of all your pre-planning the selling clubs are in pole position.

A few of the players are probably already worth more than we paid. But if we don't wish to be a yo-yo club everytime a player is sold a replacement needs to be found who is equal or better and whilst clubs evolve naturally because players get old, move on or need replacing it's more difficult if you continually sell players to make profits and are still trying to either get promoted or at least consolidate.

In reality, for a deal to go through, there has to be a willing seller, a willing buyer and a player who consents to the move (some would add the player’s agent as a fourth to the deal). Unless all the stars are aligned the deal will not happen. Plus, in any negotiation, you get a certain amount of grandstanding. If we are perceived to have “loadsamoney” then prices will rise accordingly making deals more difficult. I suspect that the Club would like both to sign a couple of players and sell two or three (to keep us in budget). Indeed, the sell side is as interesting as the buy side.

Ipswichbusiness added 18:55 - Aug 11 Oldfart71: remember Flyn Downes. We sold him when we were in League One for £2million and after one successful season with Swansea he was worth £10million. I suspect that is one reason that we have been buying young/youngish players; after one season in the Championship they could be worth five times what we paid.

Blind optimism gets you nowhere and there's nothing wrong with questioning Ashton's recent claim that we had two or three deals down the line. Of course we are no longer a big fish in a small pond. We're a decent-sized fish in a much bigger pond fighting with other larger fish for the same players. As for joyousblue talking about the Premier League being one season away - absolutely delusional. We all want Town to do well but there's a difference between supporting your club and just being unrealistic, like too many on this forum.
