Humphreys Signs New Extended Deal
Friday, 13th Jan 2023 17:23

Blues midfielder Cameron Humphreys has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the club having an option for a further season.

The 19-year-old only penned a new three-year contract in June but the academy product has made significant progress this season and as a result was offered extended terms which run to the summer of 2026 and has committed his future to the club.

“I’m really happy to sign a new contract here,” Humphreys told iFollow Ipswich. “The manager spoke to me about it after I had a bit of a run in the team. He congratulated me and said I deserved a reward which comes in the form of a new deal.

“It was a bit of a surprise having only just signed one but I know that there is so much more hard work to come.

“It was really nice that the club came to me with the deal and hopefully I can repay them now with performances on the pitch.”

Town CEO Mark Ashton added: “We’re delighted that Cameron has signed another new deal at the club.

“While he is young and still has a lot of development to come, Cameron is a fine example of what can be achieved within the pathway that our academy creates.

“This contract is a deserved reward, not just for his footballing talent, but also for his hard work and the humility he has continued to show this year.”

Humphreys, who has been with the club since he was seven, made his debut in the Carabao Cup tie against Newport last season, then made a further three sub appearances during 2021/22.

This season, he has become a regular member of the first-team squad and has now made 15 starts and five sub appearances, scoring three goals, two in the last two games.

Incredible news just before a huge game tomorrow! I love everything about this lad, his energy, his enthusiasm, he seems such a nice lad who always want to improve. Speaks very well and an incredible footballer. McKenna is the best man for his development and you can see this through thr season already. Great stuff CH!

Well done. An excellent example of how a young player can develop and succeed with talent and hard work. Humility is a key thing here. Some more experienced players could learn a lot from Cameron when it comes to humility. A recent recruit to the Saudi Arabian league for example.

Great to see that a 'Mark Ashton Haircut' is a thing these days, with presumably Mr Humphreys going for the same trim!

Serious though, bloody cracking news on the eve of a huge season for us!!

Evan and Morsy are the two for me in the middle of the park, and worried when they were not playing.
But this lad has stepped up and showed what a talent he is feel very comfortable if he fills in for Evens and Morsy and can see him push them for a regular spot on the team sheet.

He has a very bright future ahead of him and hopefully still be playing for us in the Prem.

Excellent player well done

I'm not sure that I can think of another young player who has come into the team and immediately looked so mature and at home and consistent and effective and downright brilliant as Cameron. Top man.

This is great news. Our best young player is now very well protected from a contract/value perspective now. It sents out an excellent signal to all inside the club and supporters too, how this club has radically changed under our current owners and management team.

What a shot in the arm this news is, on the evening before one of the potentially biggest home matches seen at Portman Road for the last 20 years. I certainly haven't felt so excited before for a "standard" league match for many years!!

Fantastic News. Well done Cameron, fully deserved. And well done Town for securing his talent for the foreseeable future. CH has all the attributes to be a class act for years to come at Portman Road..

So happy for Cam. Our best young player since Downes. I think he will struggle to get regular starts if Morsy and Evans are available but he has proven he is patient and that he can do the business when required.

I am hoping he is not a one-off and that other young academy players will be breaking into the first team in the near future.
