Knudsen: Summer Interest Was Concrete and Still Waiting for Contract Offer From Town
Tuesday, 20th Nov 2018 11:32

Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen has confirmed there was “concrete” interest in him from Middlesbrough and Stoke in the summer and says he is still to receive the offer of a new deal from Town with his current terms up at the end of the season.

The Potters were reported to have made a £1 million offer for the 26-year-old, while Boro were also said to be interested.

“There was something concrete in it, but sometimes things are not going to fall into place as you would like,” Sport Witness quotes Knudsen, who won his sixth Denmark cap in last night’s 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland in Aarhus, as having told Danish newspaper Tipsbladet.

“That’s the way it is. This summer I had a year left, and now I have half a year left, it’s a new situation in January. We will see.

“I have made sure to play and concentrate on it. Sometimes you want to try something new and you will be disappointed, but you cannot resist it. You have to focus on the next game and that’s really what I’m doing right now because I’m happy at Ipswich.”

Regarding his situation with Town, he added: “I’m out [of contract] in the summer and I have not heard anything from the club or the owner.

“I will also look at my own situation and, for January, the window will open again, when I can also talk freely with other clubs. Then we have to take it from there.”

“I have to look after myself. I’ve played over 160 matches lately and have not heard anything, so that’s how it is.

“I’m very open. I have always said that I like England, but I do not exclude other possibilities. If anything comes from other countries, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, I’m open to it.

“I’ve had a great deal in England over the past three and a half years, and if something comes from outside, I’m ready for it.”

However, Knudsen, who joined the Blues from his local side Esbjerg fB in 2015, isn’t ruling out staying with Town: “But I’m very open and if Ipswich want to talk, then we have to take it from there.

“But they should start the dialogue. And it’s clear that I have to look at what opportunities I have because I will also continue to be part of this national team.”

Sorry and hit the down vote but he's been no better than average since he's been here, better in a 3 man defence on the left but at times his defensive duties as a wing back or in a back 4 goes AWOL...

Blueboy - Would they keep quiet about it if asked?

Knudsen vastly overrates himself.

We did actually score from one of his long throws last week.

Lol I was waiting for that post!!

So that's ONE goal from his “ specialist” long throws in 3 and a half years. I think we've actually conceded more goals from his throws than scored from them as defenders normally win the header and opponent strikers catch us on the break.

Knudsen hasn't shut up about his contract for the last year. I don't recall Gerkin, Bishop, making waves and they're in the last year of their contracts with no option for extension .

Knudsen needs to shut up and do his “ talking” on the pitch. Personally I don't think the Vlub are fussed if he stays or leaves . He will no doubt talk to Clubs come January . Good luck to him and good bye. He really isn't that good!

I doubt PL has seen enough of JoKnu to make a decision either way. But I think it would only be fair to JoKnu to let him know in January whether he's getting a new contract or not.

Jonas needs to be more consistent. Open and honest chit chat a good thing

Nothing wrong at all with what the guy has said. Bearing in mind the way Hurst spoke about him I'm surprised he didn't vent his feelings earlier. He has a family, he needs to know whether he has a contract offer and if not he needs to look elsewhere; just like anyone else. Pretty straight forward to me. We all know that he needs to improve his passing but at this level he has something to offer and with decent coaching could be an asset. He loved the club until Hurst came and rubbished everything so no wonder he feels unsettled.

Has every right to secure his future; not sure using media interviews as a means to that end is the right way to go about it. Inevitably attracts adverse criticism. By the same token, the club should
recognise that players need to be treated fairly, and provide a degree of certainty - particularly as contracts start to run down. Admittedly management changes don't necessarily help, and the club will act in accordance with its best interests. Grown up internal communication (and honesty) is surely the best policy. (And yes, I know, it's football we're talking about!)

As to whether he should stay or go, in my opinion although he's improved since arrival, his overall performances are inconsistent, whilst lapses of judgement or loss of concentration have led to goals against. Not criticising attitude, or lack of commitment or effort etc. But, in truth, we need better in both full back positions.

Agree with ArnieM, he really isn't that good.

And, in my opinion, he really hasn't improved at all over the time he has been with us. How much better would Kenlock be if he had been given as much opportunity?

I'm very surprised that we didn't cash in for 1m in the summer, if that really was on offer? I'm guessing it wasn't really on offer.

In the short term I think we need someone much better in January, as a priority, possibly a loan. Along with an experienced striker. In the long term I would really like to see Kenlock given a chance.

Good guy. Decent guy with young family who wants to secure their future. Good idea to hoist the For Sale sign. Can't expect any sanity or cooperation from the mad owner. Average player, which is praise in this awful Ipswich team. Good luck to him. He's an honest broker, unlike that shifty Pole.

I like Jonas as a character, he is whole hearted and honest.

However, I appeared to have his head turned in the summer, didn't get the move and started the season well below par - maybe he was sulking a bit? He has said himself he was disappointed the move didn't go through.

Time to crack on and prove he is worth a new contract.

I can see Knudsen following McCarthy to his next club (Sheff Weds?)

Certainly seems like he's angling for an exit strategy while his stock is still high(ish) as an international (world cup) player. Maybe doesn't want to tie himself into a contract and then find himself a League One player if the worst happens.

An easily replaceable player. Hasn't kicked on enough for me. Often a liability.

Knudsen, in the last year of his contract, has every right in sounding out his worries of his future. Never injured, always wholehearted, and can play as attacking full back or centre left of a back three. I think that Paul Lambert could make him an even better player for both club and country. Kenlock and young Bailey Clements are waiting in the wings, but Knudsen deserves a new contract.

I don't like this whole "He is getting better each season" surely with as many games as he has had in our first team now, he should be better anyway, not "getting better" that's not a bonus, nor is it a luxury we can afford in our team, I also see people say is he a better footballer than Kenlock, given the same faith in Kenlock that we've seen managers give to Knudsen, I'm sure we would see a better and even greater Kenlock but yet no one as yet has given him a proper chance, I for one, Knudsen isn't doing himself any favours anyway talking about fancying different clubs from January onwards and basically saying he would rather go anyway due to us not offering a contract, just think this whole situation needs sorting asap, either tell him that he can leave and start sorting out something else or if we need to then tie him down.

Some people are just plain stupid how is he being arrogant by wanting to secure his future. Ipswich as always let people's contracts run down when are we going to learn! That in itself says to me that ipswich are ready to sell! Although he is the best of what we have he can be replaced, he has a defence mistake in him every now and then and gets a nose bleed going forward over the half way line

Strange isn't it that some people criticise Knudsens attitude by doing the very things they see as so wrong it what he says and does.

Not quite sure why this guy attracts so much stick on here?

He is a solid experienced professional and we dont have many of those left and are we criticise a footballer for being honest?

We will need him for the fight this season but equally I do not want the club to mess him about and I would like to see things done and dusted before the the transfer window hits us.
