Derby in "Advanced Talks" for Waghorn
Tuesday, 24th Jul 2018 21:55

Derby County are reportedly in “advanced talks” regarding Blues striker Martyn Waghorn, who was an unused sub in this evening’s 1-0 friendly victory away against the MK Dons. TWTD revealed that the Rams were interested in signing the 28-year-old a fortnight ago.

According to the Daily Mail, Derby are willing to pay the Blues a fee totalling £8 million for Waghorn with the player said to be keen on making the move.

Reports elsewhere claim last August's £200,000 signing from Rangers has submitted a transfer request in order to make the move.

Frank Lampard's Rams have been among a number of Championship clubs eyeing last season's 16-goal top scorer throughout the summer.

Middlesbrough are also very keen, while Birmingham City have also been monitoring the situation and Nottingham Forest have been linked.

Sheffield United made an offer of approaching £5 million three weeks ago which was quickly rejected by the Blues but Derby appear to be prepared to meet owner Marcus Evans's asking price.

Meanwhile, the Blues are among a number of clubs linked with Exeter forward Jayden Stockley.

Preston are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old, who came through the AFC Bournemouth system before joining the Grecians last summer following a number of spells out on loan.

Stockley, who has a year left on his contract, scored 25 times in all competitions last season. Sunderland also said to have been keen but with their interest having cooled.

If we buy Marriott, do we then get a sell on fee back for him?

Don't want to loose Martyn but I think he will go. We absolutely must invest the £8 million in a decent striker or two or I really fear for where the goals will come from . Pre season friendly results have been average to say the least.

How's the fishing going Swn?

Noticed you haven't been getting many bites of late?

Perhaps it's time to change your bait?

Hey, here's a post for ya! Exciting, well-regarded young manager. New players coming in. Deadwood being filtered out. Existing players being asked to step up. Potential huge profit on one player in the space of one season. There are way too many 'experts' on here, earnestly clutching their crystal balls. And the new season NOT EVEN STARTED!! Chumps.

First off will be gutted to see him go.

Secondly who could blame him for wanting to move, he will probably get 4 x the salary that he is currently on. Remember ITFC are just an employer to him, he isn't a supporter. How many of us wouldn't move for a massive salary increase?

If we can get 8m for someone we paid 200k for then that is excellent business. Providing a good proportion of the money is reinvested in the team.

Almost anything has got to be better than the dross served up the last 30 months, still think M.M paid M.E. back for lack of investment when he needed it.But new man full of enthusiasm,a man with a plan not expecting miracles but I,m in for the ride bumpy or smooth, and I,ve got the shirt, maybe this guy will end up manager of England one day, football is coming to Portman Rd.at last bye bye Waggy and thanks, welcome to the new men but a definite no to Chris Martin could,nt stomach the thought

These people disregarding players from the lower leagues are the same that would have turned down the likes of Lallana and vardy. If we are in the bottom 3 after 10 games playing awful football struggling to score then have a bitch,

@BraveDave congratulations a brilliant post.I am getting really p----d off with the negativity before even a league game has been played. During the past two years of dross posts on here, quite rightly, were calling for a young manager with modern style, giving youngsters a chance, and searching lower leagues for bargains. We've found such a person and still some are moaning.what's wrong with unknown players? Vary and Deli Ali came from lower leagues and were in Russia.
I have been a supporter for 50 years and still do all home games and most away. We have done ok from lower leagues; Jonathan Walters; David Johnson; Paul Mariner; Marcus Stewart; and even non league Clive Woods; Mick Stockwell; Simon Milton ; there must be others.
I think last season we should have kept Josh he was better than Iorfa. Yes, we need strengthening at the back, Matt Clarke back from Pompey, and up front McNulty from Coventry.
Waggy, I like him, BUT, if a player wants to go then what's the point rejecting good offers, we saw that with McGoldrick, a disappointed and sulky player.
Come on guys be positive like me and give the manager a chance, it may take two steps back,to go one forward. coyb.

If clubs know we just got 8mill for Waghorn and we desperate for a striker..... How far do you think 8 millions will stretch
Why aren't Derby getting in all these gems that we could buy when we get 8 millions
It don't take a genius
