Cardiff Again Linked With McGoldrick
Wednesday, 24th Jan 2018 10:35

Cardiff City are reported to have renewed their interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.

The 30-year-old, whose contract is up at the end of the season with the club not having the usual option to keep him for a further year, was first mentioned in connection with the Bluebirds, as well as Birmingham City, earlier in the month.

Now, according to Wales Online, Cardiff manager Neil Warnock, who wants to add another striker to his squad this month, had turned his attention back towards the Republic of Ireland international with a proposed move for Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban having reached an impasse.

They speculate that an offer somewhere between £500,000 and £1 million might be enough to tempt the Blues into doing a deal for the former Nottingham Forest man, who has scored eight goals this season.

Speaking early in the month, Town boss Mick McCarthy admitted that McGoldrick could be the subject of approaches this month given his contract situation.

“He is an obvious target,” McCarthy said. “None of us want to lose him but we’ll see what happens.”

He added: “I guess there’s the short-term view on the four months left that we’ve got of the season and then the long-term view in terms of if he was to go, it might not be good for the short-term.

“But if we were to replace him with somebody that’s a younger version that comes in and for the long-term of the club that may well be beneficial. If somebody bids for him, if somebody wants to come and take him.”

All of you that think ME will change his spending policy I'm afraid are living in cloud cuckoo land!

Think it's the right time to let Didzy leave. 30 now, will little interest of signing a new deal. Not to say he doesn't love the club, but think family reasons have led this desicion which is fair enough.
Along with that, Bolton opitimised David McGoldrick. Complete silence for 85 minutes and sparks into magic for 5 minutes. Along with being moved out wide this season (ludacris), I think it's time McGoldrick to leave.

Yes he is very skilful but just too casual at times. He loses the ball with poor passes because he seems to try and use clever skills when a simple side foot or toe poke is all that's needed. I find him a very frustrating player to watch at times, brilliant one minute and plain awful the next.

A younger version of McGoldrick would cost millions and our owner will not spend, that's the trouble. He is the most skillful player we own, loans aside, although I accept he isn't as effective as we would like especially with injuries and sometimes being player wider than he's like. The wages will no doubt be a saving if he goes, so I expect he may leave.

Is it possible that these non-contract talks with David McGoldrick are nothing to do with Marcus Evans or Mick McCarthy, and are possibly down to McGoldrick wanting a last big pay day ? Just a thought.

a Younger version would be worth $10m at least. MM does talk drivel sometimes.

Did i say sometimes ?

Key player to a very limited ability squad that should be strengthening to push for playoffs not selling .
Can see the season drifting away again which will lead to even further season ticket losses , the club needs to change something or sign a player to get supporters interested again

When we need him the most, he is injured. Cash in, for me.

He's a good player, but not that good. Hardly one who strikes fear into defences. If we were offered say £1m then I would take it, but if I was McGoldrick I wouldn't be going anywhere, although the certainty of a contract now might appeal to him, given he could get injured at any time.

We can always get Best back again. 😩

Move him on.

He's 30, injury prone, languid and inconsistent. I rate McGoldrick highly because, on his day, he's our best player. The problem is 'his day' doesn't come along often enough.

We can sell him now or he becomes a free agent in the summer. As much as I like the player, it's a no-brainer.

For me, he has never been a favourite, just way too laid back, yes it may be how he is? the odd show of real class but in my book does not contribute enough to the team itself.
As far as moving on? its a yes, Cardiff just make sure you do not put pockets in his shorts or he will have his hands in them most of the time! i,m sure we can do better, and oh take Freddie with you another that has lost his way under MM, such a shame as in the early days, he was superb!

Def a no brainer. He's injury prone, 30, inconsistent and lacks commitment. Perhaps Barnsley wil swop Moore, same value but one for the future!

If he goes lets face it he wont get replaced and any money will simply dissapear into the ether never to be seen again.!! along with the other monies brought in by player sales..ME reportedly put in 5-6 mil a year , he also reportedly ???? takes 5.4% on the debt that he is racking up so that would equate to putting very little in if correct , just running at a small loss as the club declines in most areas.

Absolutely agree Surco, this owner and manager are slowly killing this club.
I don't really care if Didsy stays or goes,as like most things ITFC supporters are powerless.
McCarthy has sold players to the value of approx. £19 million but only spent,or been allowed to spend under 4 1/2 million;and Sheepshanks told us shareholders that Evans taking over the club would mean we wouldn't have to sell to survive.Well looks like Marcus duped him,and we are landed with an owner like the Venkys,Blackpool Owner etc.
This man Evans started off as a glorified ticket tout and upset the Wimbledon authorities by his actions.Since then he has upset other ruling bodies, the latest being the Brazilians at the last Olympics.A man like that is quite capable of creative accounting. If RBS and Carillion can do it,I am sure our reclusive owner can as well.

So after 55 years of supporting Town I feel we have a Manager who doesn't care about the supporters, and an invisible owner whose motives are unclear,as he never puts his head above the parapet.

Lowest point of supporting ITFC,which could result in relegation to the 1st Division eventually.

Take it.

500k - £1m would be a good deal for someone who will no doubt spend most of his remaining time here injured.

I would say go and spend it on an up & coming striker like Jack Marriott but he's probably worth about 3 or £4m+ now 🙄

OK FIRST AD FOREMOST - Dids has been brilliant for us when played with the right players around him and he in the right position. I could not say that loud enough - he is our most skillful player I think. Would be sad to see him go but ....

Am I alone in being bemused that Mick keeps insisting that a 4231 system is in effect made up of 424 in terms of who is skilled in what position (in some cases, "skilled" is used for effect)

You can have as many strikers as you like - but if no creative midfield they will watch most of the game with their faces watching Bart's Brilliance.

If McGoldrick is fit then he will be played - but there must be better options in the loan/lower league markets at goal CREATING ? (Yes, I know that individual brilliance at creating goals is UNQUESTIONED - so DON'T please downvote me for that ....)

What I am saying is all about the SHAPE of the team. As he is PRETTY SURE to go in May for free, and as we are not going to change the shape whilst he is here ... sell and it MIGHT JUST persuade the manager to play a balanced team with Round Pegs in Round Holes.

Maybe ... just maybe !

I'd like him to stay but as mentioned by others, MM seems resigned to losing him and he doesn't sort out contracts anyway, so it looks like he might be going. Hopefully funds are given to the manager (whoever that may be) in the summer for transfer fees and wages

Do we really want him for another year? We are getting mauled in midfield these days and still basically playing 4 up front with Didz,Waghorn, Garner and Celina. We need someone in midfield to get on the ball and drive us forward, that could be Gleeson, He will probably start in McGoldrick's place vs Wolves, lets see what happens. If selling McGoldrick bring in another player then sell him otherwise let him see out his contract and wish him luck.

Is Dids another player who has worsened under his time being coached by ITFC

We aren't going to bring anyone in to replace mcg. all the cash goes to me and a % to mm for player sales

Wickets added 16:58 - Jan 24
Quite honestly if we wanted to keep him we would have sorted a new contract about a year ago. I think we are happy to let him walk at the end of the season or take the best we can get now. Maybe Mick is just not fussed about what happens at Town next season.

Big dilemma this. If he is unlikely to sign a new contract or if the club don't want to offer him one, then there is a case to sell. But who would we get in? Another loan? Surely little point of a loan. I just can't see any fee being reinvested in the playing squad.
