Cardiff Again Linked With McGoldrick
Wednesday, 24th Jan 2018 10:35

Cardiff City are reported to have renewed their interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.

The 30-year-old, whose contract is up at the end of the season with the club not having the usual option to keep him for a further year, was first mentioned in connection with the Bluebirds, as well as Birmingham City, earlier in the month.

Now, according to Wales Online, Cardiff manager Neil Warnock, who wants to add another striker to his squad this month, had turned his attention back towards the Republic of Ireland international with a proposed move for Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban having reached an impasse.

They speculate that an offer somewhere between £500,000 and £1 million might be enough to tempt the Blues into doing a deal for the former Nottingham Forest man, who has scored eight goals this season.

Speaking early in the month, Town boss Mick McCarthy admitted that McGoldrick could be the subject of approaches this month given his contract situation.

“He is an obvious target,” McCarthy said. “None of us want to lose him but we’ll see what happens.”

He added: “I guess there’s the short-term view on the four months left that we’ve got of the season and then the long-term view in terms of if he was to go, it might not be good for the short-term.

“But if we were to replace him with somebody that’s a younger version that comes in and for the long-term of the club that may well be beneficial. If somebody bids for him, if somebody wants to come and take him.”

Good time for him to leave with his contract up at end of the season when we will get nothing in return. I think a new start at another club will benefit him too. Always played out of position, like many and has no pace. I too think the decks are being cleared for another manager next season. Not convinced our spending policy will alter then either as Evans doesn't/won't/not able to spend the necessary money to sign younger exciting players. That being the case look forward to going down a few league's where the level of Evans investment will fit and the crowd will be a few hundred to a few thousand. Why oh why did he buy a football club if he can't afford to fund it to the top? Unless as other have stated it is for other reason's outside football. Owners outside the Premier league are not going to show huge profits on their investment. If it hurts our owner soooo much to spend a bit more on quality to help us progress and he can't then let somebody else have a go.

I think a fit Dozzell, Nydham or Bishop give us options in that position for next season and beyond, especially with Downs, Hows, Adeyami and dare I say it Skuse behind. We surely cannot have the same injuries as in seasons past and this season. If that is the case then money in now and build for the future is better than a free transfer at the end of the season. If he were to sign a new contract I'd keep him but if not get the best we can. It is not as though this will de-rail us as I fear the teams between us and the play offs are too many even if the points gap is small.

He's a waste of space, lazy arrogant selfish in the club it's his way or no way, if you really look at it if he makes a bad pass or wrong descion often everyone looks the other way, if another player does similar his face an actions tell you all you need to know about the dressing room at itfc

To be honest personally I think we should offload him. Must be on decent money, with what do we get in return.

London blue. .. of the 7 midfielders you mention none have played for over half a season without being out with long term injuries apart from Skuse !!!
Them playing and playing well enough is all speculation when in reality MM has assembled squads that are mid table results wise

KEEP HIM PLEASE. Some say his legs have gone absolutely ridiculous. He never has had pace, but he is the best player we have at the Lub and pulls all the strings.

75% of our goals this season have had McGoldrick involved. Saturdays goal was a result of a bit of his magic. Most of the time when we are scoring lots its becausehe is at the heart of it making in happen.

A top class number 10, we must keep him.

Reason for keeping him; he's our most talented attacking player.

Reasons for getting rid now; he will be gone for nothing at the end of the season, get a fee now, lose a salary, put one of the youngsters in in his place to get half a season's experience.

Lot depends on whether he wants to sign a new contract, if no then sell now. Change will also do players like McGoldrick/Sears good.

Davids best years have gone, a great deal through injury. Always good on the ball but always lacking pace, his decision making this year has been poor, but could still be a good player in a more passing team, but that is not our style, at the moment...a good time for us to sell, and thank him for his time at ITFC.

Good servant of the club. Would definitely sell now, however, and get a little money at least rather than no money in ths summer. Make a space for an up-and-coming youngster to grow into.

some harsh comments on here re dids, in ref to his attitude that seems way wide of the mark to me,he has never been a pacy player nor was jim magilton and he was quality too as is dids he has that football brain ...he should be a key player in our team, like someone said warnock is very wise so why is he after him, yet he offloaded adeyemi? , i know who i would rather build our team around

Dids has been one of our most talented but injury prone players. His skill is not in question but he is 30 now with little pace which the modern game demands. By the time he has made up his mind to pass the ball it is often two seconds too late. Sad but fair. £1m! Grab the money and run. We rarely spend that amount.
I have always been cynical about ME and to me he still looks upon the club as a perfect tax haven but still appearing a genuine supporter. Just look at his broader history!
Dids I salute you and a move to Cardiff would be good for you.
