Wolves Eyeing Knudsen Move
Saturday, 1st Jul 2017 14:37

TWTD understands Wolves are weighing up a move for Town’s Danish international left-back Jonas Knudsen.

The 24-year-old joined the Blues from his hometown club Esbjerg fB in the summer of 2015 for a fee of around £350,000 and since then has been a regular in the side.

However, Myles Kenlock, 20, began to push him for his place during the second half of last season and the academy product will be looking to establish himself as Mick McCarthy’s first-choice left full-back during the season ahead.

Capped twice at full level by Denmark, Knudsen, who also operated on the left of a back three during 2016/17, has a year left on his contract, with Town having an option to keep him for a further season.

Speaking at the first day of pre-season training on Monday, ahead of the signings of midfielders Emyr Huws and Tom Adeyemi, Blues boss McCarthy said players would have to leave prior to too many more coming in.

“We’re going to have to lose some before we go around signing too many others,” he said.

In May TWTD reported that striker Brett Pitman and midfielder Kevin Bru have been told they can leave if they find themselves new clubs.

Wouldn't get rid, not the best LB in the league but certainly isn't the worst, a good understudy to Kenlock, if we got rid, it would just mean we had to spend the money on buying another back up Left Back. Seems pointless to me, would be getting rid of pitman and bru first.

Good cover. Kenlock is a better prospect but id keep Jonas for competition and cover. The squad is starting to take shape now so if he's in our plans I'd rather we kept him.

It's all very well for MM to say that we will have to sell players before we can get fresh blood in but anyone can see that we need to strengthen the squad not gamble on trading current players for new ones who may not be as good as the ones deemed surplus to requirements. For years now we play the transfer market as if it were a car boot sale. We pay top dollar to get players in and sell the family silver for next to nothing. Ok we got lucky selling Cresswell and Mings but we didn't exactly reinvest the proceeds effectively. As the song goes 'Another day older and deeper in debt'.

If its a toss up between Bart and Knud to recoup some of the outlay then its got to be knudsen surely if the price is right. Ideally i would like him to stay but if someones got to go i dont think it would be a disaster to lose knudsen over Bart. Being thats the thought process behind the potential Knudsen sale.

Am shocked that any team above league 2 would be looking at Knudsen, he is a pi$$ poor defender!
Even more worrying is that some on here rate him!

I guess it all depends on how much they are offering and who is available and for how much as a replacement. We have never really got the best out of his long throws have we.

Take any serious offer. He's really not that good. Gets caught out too often, doesn't offer much going forward and the long throw rarely bears fruit. He's reaching the age where any promise should be delivered and I don't believe there's more to come.

Wouldn't be sorry to see him go.

Can any one say if we have ever scored directly from one of his long throw-ins, if he could angle them in lower it would be better, the ball is in the air far to long and I'm amazed at how many times he has been pulled up for taking foul throws, very unprofessional giving away possession of the ball. Always seems to have a mistake in him, however that was said of Tommy Smith a couple of seasons ago, he needs time to mature. Must admit I do like the look of Kenlock and would prefer to see him progress in the LB spot.
This is what I'd like to see as a starting line up :-
Bart,
Spence, Webster, Smith, Kenlock
Ward, Adeyemi, Huws
Celina, Garner, McGoldrick

After Cresswell & Mings our Danish fella is a poor third. However over the past couple of years none of Mccarthys signings have worked. His long throws sum up the club last season

He scored twice against the budgies but still divides opinion - that says all you need to know about his footballing ability.

Many goals conceded last year when Jonas went awol at the back or out of position. He likes to get forward but hasn't the engine or the desire to get back and stop crosses into the box. Good backup player, as you can't expect Kenlock to perform at his best for a full season. As for Knudsen's long throws they most certainly wouldn't be missed.

Knudsen maybe a surprise for us this season.

I think he's better in a back 3 than as a left back and personally would rather keep him unless it is a really good offer or he wants away. Would also stop his long throws unless we are really going to attack them . We always seem a bit half hearted when they arrive in the box.

@Steelmonkey - that's a great looking side, a FIT Taylor for Smith would be the ultimate imo. My absolute fear though is that Chambers and Skuse will be MM preferred 'favourite' options, which will = hoof and sideways pedestrian football. I completely agree with what BlueMachines mentions elsewhere, and for these reasons, I also won't be purchasing a ST, not forgetting the Dino as well, obviously!!

Tractorcam, pleasures all mine. With the dwindling attendances at your place I'm sure you had no choice but to reduce them. Amazing how you all turn on your own players as soon as they are mentioned as leaving. Anyway good luck for next season i will be there when we play you so if you want to argue about it let me know and I will meet for a pint.

if he does go it will be for an ''undisclosed fee'' so people don't start saying we have a couple of million to spend, Evans wont want another ''where money for Murphy saga ''. I'm in two minds about Knudson, he has his moments [either way] and his fabled long throw, never gained us anything at all .

RugbyWolf, it's only away prices that have been capped, home prices had an increase. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, but again nice of you to keep signing on to the ITFC forum

Wolves - The sleeping giants of the midlands, the old chestnut zzzzzzz....may have money but lavishing 20 million on those that love warmer climates will hopefully backfire when the championship winter bites!!! Money can't buy you everything.....maybe they can keep a manager for a few months this season. Unstable club trying to glory hunt.

I'm sorry but I must have missed the games Knudsen played well!

The man can't control a medicine ball and his long throw has been a disaster .

No doubting his commitment and endeavour always gives 100% but he will never get us promoted in a million years.

I would drive him to Wolves and pay half the transfer fee!

If we could get £1m plus then i'd happily let him go..he's fairly average compared to our last 2 left backs.

Decent player but if the bid is sizable enough, he has to go on the basis we apparently need to sell. Anything over £1.2 mill I'd snap your hands off.

Prefer Kenlock but this won't happen anyway Wolves have just bought a left back from elsewhere.

Knudsen has passion & commitment and has improved in my view. He should be banned though from taking long throws because they are useful only for setting up breakaway attacks for the opposition.

Kenlock is better and has more flair. Apart from the Norwich games we have seen nothing special from Knudsen.
