Stewart Stays Behind
Thursday, 9th Jul 2015 11:41

Winger Cameron Stewart has been left out of the 22-man Town squad which is spending the week training at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

Manager Mick McCarthy and his squad, including a number of youngsters, made the trip to Ireland for their annual training camp on Monday and face Dublin side Shelbourne in their first pre-season friendly at Tolka Park on Saturday (KO 3pm).

As in previous years, McCarthy is expected to field a different XI in each half against what's likely to be largely an U19s Shels side.

Since the squad left, Stewart has posted a photo of himself on social media in London with his former Manchester United team-mate Danny Welbeck.

The 24-year-old was back at Playford Road last week having had a disappointing first season with the Blues, after joining on a free transfer from Hull City last summer.

After a proposed move to Leeds, which could yet lead to a transfer embargo for the Whites, broke down, the Mancunian wideman signed a three-year deal at Portman Road.

However, having broken his jaw late in pre-season, Stewart was unable to win a place in the Town side and his only Blues appearances to date are the two sub appearances in the FA Cup ties against Southampton. Late in the season he joined Barnsley on loan.

Speaking last week, manager Mick McCarthy wasn’t entirely ruling him out of his plans - "He’s got to get his nose down and see if he can get in the team, see if he can get in the squad first” - but with loan wingers Ryan Fraser and Ainsley Maitland-Niles joining the likes of Jay Tabb, Dylan Connolly and Alex Henshall in the squad - and all travelling to Ireland - it would be little surprise if the former England U17, U19 and U20 international was off-loaded before the start of the season.

Stewart could be involved with the U21 squad which plays a friendly at Leiston on Saturday (KO 3pm).

Meanwhile, Noel Hunt, 32, released by the Blues at the end of last season, has also remained in Suffolk and has spent the week training with the Blues youngsters at Playford Road.

Hunt was offered the chance to get himself fit with Town by manager Mick McCarthy while he searches for a new club.

Leaving him behind with the U21's is hardly going to motivate him though is it?

Am sure if he would have come back fit and pulling up trees in training MM would have taken him. Maybe his head has been full of all the Leeds stuff and not just got his head down and got on with things. Obv talented but as like Taylor and Ravel Morrison don't get far with bad work ethic and attitude.

This for me is another weird one. Mick signed Stewart as a result of him causing us problems whenever he played against us!!! Now that either means he is a good player, or that we didn't have a right back capable of keeping him quiet. Chambers has grown into the role there, but it's no secret he is far more effective in the middle. Stewart gave chambo the run around for charlton and Leeds. Clearly talented, is mick getting the best out of him??

take it Berra, Bru and Murphy are still away. Did Ambrose go?

22 squad therefore:

Bialkowski, Gerken, Hammond, Emmanuel, Parr, Kenlock, Clarke, Smith, Yorwerth, Chambers, Maitland-Niles, Fraser, Tabb, Henshall, Skuse, Bishop, Hyam, McGoldrick, Pitman, Sears, McDonnell, Connolly

I would imagine???

Squad's not been officially announced but Ambrose went and I was told Bru also made the trip. McGoldrick not back yet, same as Murphy and Berra. Parr was also given extra time off for his honeymoon, not sure when he was due back.

Not looking good for him. If he does leave and considering our other wingers are untried or have been unsuccessful, does it mean Mick will reinvest some of the Mings money and sign a left sided midfielder, with fraser on the right? Or will we rely on Tabby? Can't see the 17 year old from Arsenal being a definite starter.

Not surprised by this at all as Stewarts body language tells it all. Even on the photos of first day of training he looked thoroughly miserable. A shame because I always rated him when he played against us and was really chuffed when we signed him. Only seen him in under 21s action and he did not stand out there . His days are probably now numbered at Ipswich Town.

Shouldn't that headline read "Stewart left behind"?

With the signing of Fraser and Maitland Niles this summer along with Henshall and Stewart (as well as the young Irish) previously it is clear to me that MM wants to have the option of attacking wingers. Hopefully this years breed will deliver more than to date so he can actually pick them.

Odd one this , whenever he played against us he caused no end of issues for our right backs ,yet for us he looks disinterested , lightweight , a non team player etc etc. He is a rich young man ,perhaps he's not motivated ,so best release him on a free ,get his wages off the books and move on.

Sounds like his attitude stinks, get rid. Huge contrast to Henshall who seems to have come back and is up for the season

The odds must be high that he's not going to make it with us. You win some; you lose some. I've no evidence he has an " attitude problem," but I suspect that Mick's challenge to establish himself in the squad rather hints at this, as does his general demeanor.

Its a shame to me has the same attitude as tom ince I think he thinks hes better than everyone else difference is he never looks like he can be bothered to prove it, you have to prove at ITFC you deserve to play there are no hangers on in the championship youll not be carried buck up or **** off simples.
