Hunt Joining Town On Loan
Wednesday, 26th Nov 2014 15:25

TWTD understands that Leeds striker or winger Noel Hunt is expected at Town on Thursday morning to complete the formalities on a loan deal through to January, the clubs having agreed terms. The switch is with a view to a permanent move.

Earlier this afternoon, reports in Yorkshire revealed that the Blues had made an approach for Hunt, a long-time target of Town boss Mick McCarthy. In September, TWTD reported that the Blues manager had been keen on signing the 31-year-old - the younger brother of winger Stephen Hunt - earlier in the summer.

Hunt junior, who will train with his new team-mates at Playford Road for the first time in the morning, started his career in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers and with hometown club Waterford United, where he had a spell on loan, before moving on to Scotland where he played for Dunfermline and Dundee United.

Capped three times by Ireland, Hunt joined Reading in July 2008, before following his former Royals’ boss Brian McDermott to Elland Road in the summer of 2013.

Hunt, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has made only one start and one sub appearance so far this season, both in the opening week of the campaign.

Overall, he has made 14 starts and eight sub appearances for the Whites without scoring having missed much of last season due to injury.

Town's signing of Hunt means the Blues are now unlikely to pursue their interest in 19-year-old Chelsea midfielder John Swift, who has been training at Playford Road this week.

Football League clubs have until 5pm on Thursday to sign players on emergency loans.

Town also have Ireland international defender Sean St Ledger on trial and the 29-year-old may be offered a short-term contract through to January, although there is no hurry to agree a deal for the former Leicester man as he is currently a free agent.

Surprised by the signing but not by the reaction on here. Bloke hasn't signed let alone kicked a ball for us yet and has already got a slating and then some having a go at MM as we sit, at present, 4th in league. Seem to remember the same being said by the usual culprits of Steve Hunt , Tabb, Murphy, Ambrose etc etc Christ I even remember Chambers and McGoldrick getting the same reaction when they signed. I know everyone has an opinion but innocent until proven guilty ?

Im sorry but i really dont understand this. We have already signed one striker on loan who is practically useless (Sammon) so what do we do, we go out and try to get another. Dont get me wrong, i have nothin but admiration for Mick for the bargains he has bought into the club, but if the club is serioulsy going for promotion this season they need to spend some money and bring someone in of genuine quality i.e BENT. Just my opinion.

Ambrose, Collinson and now Noel Hunt. Speachless. Feeling very disappointed. I hope this one works out.

I think the league table and recent form and performances suggest that MM might just know what he is doing.
If he thinks he is the right player and person to add to our squad then that is good enough for me.

What people seem to be missing is the fact he can also play WINGER! Henshall and Stewart are both nowhere near the first team due to injuries or lack of form, Stewart won't play until at least February imo as as soon as he gets fit again he gets buggered again!! Collison and ambrose will play in the centre IF they can get near the team, so to say we shouldn't sign hunt as we have these two is silly. I would welcome the loan, if it doesn't work then nothing is lost.

Its a short term loan - lets see what he can do. We do need some cover in the striker/winger position. Stewart has picked up another knock, S hunt can't play every game, Henshall & bajner are still a work in progress and collison is never going to be fit. He is experienced and will be good cover for the lengthy xmas period.

Cannot remember further back than 1960 but cant recall two siblings playing together at Town, perhaps Phil could confirm.Wonder if Stephen has been bending Micks ear?

Like a lot on here, now we are 4th, was hoping for someone like Benty who has pedigree(andITFC connections)and would help in promotion push, remains to be seen whether Hunty Mk 2 will do this, although adds to the considerable Irish contingent,a trend started here by Roy Keane!

He wont be a striker, he'll be a wideman, replacement for stewart, who isn't cutting it, or is consistently injured.

I suspect we'll switch from 4-3-3 back to 4-4-2

Seriously underwelmed! There's so many better options out there so just can't believe we end up with Hunt junior. He's not fit and stats don'tlook good so what on earth is MM doing!! Hoping that JW and Bru will be back sooner than planned.

Henshall and Stewart are not doing it , or in Stewarts case injured - shame - FOR NOT MUCH MONEY this could be a good squad addition
When you look at this brother past few weeks , could be good .
MM and TC have turned ave players into real performers so whilst it is a surprise let us see

btw - Dont see Taylor etc ripping up any trees

Good option from the bench or start him against mid table sides like Norwich...

Seasider - what about Neil and David Gregory? :-)

wall done MM, we're 4th in the table and he signs a nobody who will never even play for the 1st team. this must be the most miserable promotion push ever

Delighted we are signing another striker, as don't rate Sammon or Bajner. Not so pleased with this guy though. Makes Sammon look prolific!

Bit baffled as convinced by this as I was by Sammon.

think this is a sqaud addition, Mick and TC tend to get the best out of the players so who knows, certainly give him a chance but not for me this.

Not convinced by Swift either since he cant get Taylor out of the Rotherham side. Lets see. To be fair leeds have had 2 no hope mangers already this season so maybe within a team that knows what it's doing he will be better.

as others have said werw 4th and cant really argue with that.

Stewart is injured again so.....

why am I paying £30 to watch Noel Hunt sit on a bench?

I live up in Yorkshire im surounded by Leeds fans let me tell you Hunt is donkey fact. i also told you months ago stewart was a donkey so far im not wrong.

I for one can understand this signing, he is the mick McCarthy type player, works his arse off for the team, he could further improve his brothers already good form with him being around the place. And he adds depth to the striking department, think he's only 5ft 8 and is quicker than our other strikers so if either Murphy or McGoldrick get injured he could come into the side to form a big man little man partnership, lets just say if one of them got injured I'd rather have him come in than Sammon.
Yes it's weird how he's not better than what we've got and can't get anywhere near the Leeds side but with the write coaching from TC with the strikers and his hard working nature he could prove to be a decent signing

He looks about 53 years of age but obviously he's not. He was for sure the better of the two brothers...I hope he can regain so of his form of old... COYB

22 appearances for Leeds without scoring, it's your typical MM sighning, we are 4th in the table and we have an owner who is worth over £700 million and the best we can do is Noel hunt on loan! Just brilliant, Darren bent would potentially score us 20 goals between now and the end of the season, why are we scrapping the barrel??

What a load of moaners. Probably the same ones who questioned McGoldrick and Murphy signings!!!

paulthebluealien added 18:48 - Nov 26
Some of the comments on here bore me extraordinarily. "He hasn't scored a goal in so many games" - it doesn't really sound like he's been given much of a chance. Moreover, Leeds are hardly prolific are they? I trust McCarthy, great manager and TC has turned Murphy into an absolutely devastatingly brilliant striker.

Time will tell but people for f**k sake, WE ARE FOURTH IN THE LEAGUE.

And the same moaners who questioned the signings of Collison , Stewart , Wordsworth, SEB, Nouble, Salmon, Baijner, Richardson , Green , Hensall, the young lad from Villa. ...Agree MM has signed some great free players or loan deals but not all of his deals have worked like all managers so let's be level headed. Out of the two I would rather have signed Bent And shown the club's ambition to go up but will give Hunt a chance to prove himself and then comment.
