Appleton Not Told Identity of Third Man
Appleton Not Told Identity of Third Man
Friday, 27th Jan 2012 11:16

Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton admits that he hasn’t officially been told the identity of the third Pompey player the Blues are targeting. As reported last night, we understand goalkeeper Stephen Henderson is the third man on boss Paul Jewell’s wish list along with Jason Pearce and Joel Ward.

Discussions are ongoing between the clubs’ off-field management with Appleton admitting that he’s not certain of the third target: “I’ve got a good idea who it is but I haven’t been told about it.

“I don’t want anyone to go but I might get a call at any time. We know the position the club are in.”

But the Pompey boss claims losing members of his already stretched squad isn’t inevitable, particularly if there are developments on the ownership front with Sicilian American businessman Joseph Cala understood to be reviving his move for the club.

“It’s not an absolute must,” he insisted. “From our view, that’s why we don’t have to take the first bid which comes along.”

It's clear to me that we will not sign any players. We are offering peanuts to all parent clubs including Portsmouth who really do need the money but know that we are trying to take advantage of their situation... Deals are being done everyday and all I seem to hear is how hard and complicated it is to sign players. The bottom line is that money talks. I agree to an extent that you can't pay over the odds, but judging from the comments regarding potential signings we are offering well under the asking valuation of the players we are looking at. opposition managers and owners laugh at us when we make a bid for their players. Not good times at Ipswich especially after that horror show against Leeds. Something needs to be done otherwise we will be playing League 1 next season.

Well we had better concentrate on other targets now,, that is if we have any ????
Because with the Mafia taking over Pompey,, and the first thing he is doing is to pay off there tax bill,, well so he says ????? so good luck to them !!!!! and of coarse Joseph Cala
I can still see us with the same squad for the West Ham game ?????
What is Kennedy like at centre half ?????? got to use him somewhere to earn his money !!!!!!

We could add the entire Portsmouth squad to ours and we'd still go down.

Like one or two others also got the Harry Lime joke;but am a bit long in tooth.By the way was in PJ's 'local' in Dedham lunchtime, said they havn't seen him much lately as he is busy sourcing transfer targets.Told them he hasn't had any success yet.
Expect will be back in there next week with his flatmate Mc Carthy when the windows closed, unless of course in the Majors words the tipping point has been reached,

@SuperReuser - We've only bid on about 6 of those lot and 4 or possible 5 are still pending. Most business is done at the end of the month, it's very agent driven.

Cleggs been given 27 days and plenty of funds and yet he has not come up with anything more than the loan of Reading's Cuckoo Clock goalkeeper

"Why are all the other clubs signing players and we can't seem to?"

Wrong.

As of yesterday, 49 incoming transfer deals had taken place so far this window involving Championship clubs.

24 of those were loans (including Alex McCarthy to Ipswich), involving 16 clubs.

12 more were free transfers, involving 8 clubs.

Just 13 have been permanent deals involving a transfer fee. 11 clubs out of the 24 in the Championship have so far managed to buy new players for money, with only Burnley and Leeds securing more than one each.

Four clubs - Blackpool, Palace, Hull and Ipswich - have so far only brought in loan players.

Four clubs - Birmingham, Peterborough, Milwall and Forest - have so far brought nobody new in, even on loan.

The vultures are circling Fratton Park, and they are wearing Ipswich shirts and look like a fat little scouser.
If you believe these players will turn your sean around then you are all deluded, have a look where we are in the league.
You should have the decency to offer a proper fee and just take advantage of the situation at the moment. I hope all this leaves a nasty taste in your mouth, because as a football fan if you were my club i would be little bit embarrased the jewell has handled it.
