Middlesbrough Renew Scotland Interest
Middlesbrough Renew Scotland Interest
Sunday, 8th Jan 2012 10:24

Tony Mowbray and Middlesbrough have renewed their interest in Town striker Jason Scotland, according to a tabloid report this morning. The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but has a clause in his deal which if triggered will see the Trinidadian automatically receive another year with the Blues.

Boro previously made an approach for the former Swansea and Wigan man in August along with Blackpool.

Today’s report claims Town won’t play Scotland again due to the clause relating to his extra year, however, TWTD understands that he’s still a few matches away from reaching that milestone which is 19 league starts, having so far made 13 in the Championship plus a further four as sub. Last season, Carlos Edwards triggered a similar clause in his contract.

Given Scotland’s age, he’s 33 next month, the Blues would almost certainly consider any offer which came in with Paul Jewell not necessarily seeing the frontman in his longer term plans. If he moves on, Town would certainly look for a replacement striker during the window.

Fantastic. We lose the better loan players and let other sides take the best of the rest. Leaving us with the players no-one wants to save us from relegation. Priceless.

thing is on all these transfers and contracts just how much say does PJ has. I say none. I get the feeling he's just a puppet and Clegg just keep pulling the strings, PJ just get told what to do. we need Clegg out first, then let PJ get on with it and then judge.

Suicidal move, destined to be our top scorer given that Andrews won't stay.

WE ARE GOING DOWN.

Funny how the same 'fans' were slating him last season. Constant moaning and a no-win attitude to whatever happens at the club by the vast majority.

Grow-up

He and Aaron Cresswell are probably the only two players that have deserved to wear the blue jersey this season. Give him a proper longer contract ... c'mon get it sorted!

That's not a problem. Ellington can get the first 15 minutes rather than at the end. No more starts for Scotland, but he's on the pitch for most of the game. Simples!

Does the appearances milestone explain Scotland's mysterious recent omissions from the team/squad? If that's the case it would confirm fellow posters' suggestions that PJ does not have overall authority in team choice.
It's crazy to let Scotland go. He has been our most effective forward since he arrived and would doubtlessly have a few more goals to his name if he hadn't been played as the lone striker in so many games.

He went through a bit of a dodgy spell but seems to have found some consistancy over the last few months and became fitter and lost a bit of weight, more than can be said about Chopra who has no effect on matches (5 goals I think so far but contributes little else).

Surely, if we want to play him for more than 19 games, he is more than useful to us and would be worth having him next year.

And I agree Bobble. it's the fans that have to take a long hard look at themselves (not just Jewell and co.)

Go in for Sharpe and Maynard both young and score goals.

May cost us £5 million but worth it pay them a good wage and let Scotland go for a fee plus Priskin and Ellington contract is up end of season so Sharpe and Maynard wages are covered.

2 centrebacks one being Collins plus Andrews, get Green and Henry plus a right back and a class keeper

Sorted. ;0)

people on here are delusional sometimes, there is no way Sharp is coming here, he said himself he doesn't want to goto another club in a relegation fight, same as any other half decent player.
We wont have a hope in hell at getting in the quality we need with Jewell in charge, we need a new man in quick, get one or two performances in so players will see some reason for risking coming to us.
I personally cant see the right type of manager wanting the job as it stands, I would boot Jewell and get in Burley for the rest of the season, he has a lot more idea about organizing a team to play proper football and can stop the ship sinking with any luck, then whoever comes in at the end of season has a clean start without fear of relegation.

What is going on?!! 16 players out of contract at the end of this season. Jason Scotland & Carlos Edwards must be wondering what's going on. Grant Leadbitter is working it to get a Bosman free, just like McCauley & Norris did last year. Oh, hang on a minute, the Club are probably, just like last year, waiting to see what division we will be in next season before negotiating contracts. This, together with trying to sign new players whilst we are in fear of relegation and also compromised geographically. I do hope the Club know what they are doing. Are we sleep walking towards catastrophe?!
