Sunderland Enter Westwood Race
Sunderland Enter Westwood Race
Wednesday, 25th May 2011 08:57

Town’s chances of signing out-of-contract Coventry keeper Keiren Westwood appear increasingly slim with Sunderland reported to have joined the race for the Irish international’s signature.

The Blues already faced reported competition from Everton, Leicester City and Celtic, and Steve Bruce is now said to have begun talks with the 26-year-old. Current Black Cats keeper Craig Gordon has undergone knee surgery and is out for the first three months of the season.

Aston Villa are also now claimed to be eyeing the former Carlisle man, who seems certain to be leaving the Ricoh Arena this summer.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Giovani Dos Santos has said he wants to stay with his current loan club Racing Santander. Spurs are happy to allow the Mexican international to leave but the La Liga side might struggle to pay the £6 million fee agreed as part of the terms of his loan.

I must admit I like the way we tell everyone our targets and we end up with none. Lets hope any signings PJ does manage to get will be an assett to the club and in their middle twenties so that PJ can have 3 or 4 years to mold what will be a solid and consistant team together.

Yep, we were close but when Prem sides come in, we obviously have no chance.

There goes that one then, if a prem club comes calling... we was never going to sign him. The only advantage is he will be no.2# there, we can offer him 1# for a promotion chasing side. Any decent player especially out of contract, there are so many clubs in the same boat...

Anyone else got the feeling that we are only linked with players to help their respective agents to get a better deal elsewhere?

Every time I see we are linked with a player I pretty much discount the chances they will be a Town player next season.

"Too much competion for anyone we are linked to !!"

There is always going to be competition for players that could make the step up to the Premiership. Dullards.

I said he was reported to be close to signing or similar. Was only reporting what was being reported in that case.

Just checked back and I said "are understood" rather than "TWTD understands", perhaps I ought to have made it clearer. Was probably another "reported to be" story that day and I was trying to vary it!

oh well I can think of some other people who we could possibly sign. Notts Forest are saying that Lee Camp may leave the club this summer so he could be worth a go. Wouldnt mind Speroni either.

Philomena,

Understand the desire not to miss a story, but did you honestly think it would happen? Did you actually think it possible given what has been said about Westwood all season? It was unlikely all the PL clubs had forgotten him.

Keeper is not a priority, Fulop is more than capable and a new goalkeeping coach may help no end.

Would have been a good signing, but was always a long shot.

I think Chris Kirkland would be good.

Does Phil run The Sprat? Sorry Phil, no offence.

GET OF PHIL'S BACK, HE REPORTED A LINK.

YOU WOULD ALL COMPLAIN IF HE DIDNT.

IT WAS UNLIKELY, BUT IF IT HAPPENED AND PHIL HAD DISMISSED IT YOU WOULD ALL HAVE A GO.

YOU DONT HAVE TO READ EVERY ARTICLE!!
