Keane Happy With Point
Keane Happy With Point
Sunday, 25th Oct 2009 00:13

Boss Roy Keane was happy to take a point away from Town’s visit to Plymouth having gone behind in the first half. Argyle manager Paul Sturrock says he will consider appealing against Darcy Blake’s red card.

Keane said: “I could have a go at my players for not hitting the target more but Plymouth defended unbelievably well. It's important to recognise that.

“You only have to look at Quinn's chance and the defender running back and clearing off the line.

"I guess when you go one down away from home, particularly with the ball taking ages to come back in when it goes out of play, we have got to be contented with a draw. The encouraging thing for me as a manager is that we are creating chances."

Keane was pleased with the way Jon Stead took his chance when it came: "Steady took his goal well and deserves full credit for getting in that position. He gambled on the backpass, but still had a lot to do and it was a cool finish.

"He has not been involved recently but he scored twice for the reserves in midweek, so he's had a good week.

"It's very frustrating but we'll keep going. We'll take the point and move on."

Elsewhere, a tabloid newspaper claims Keane is looking to add a more experienced coach to his staff to help end the Blues’ winless run. Earlier in the season, when ex-Manchester United coach Brian Kidd was linked with a coaching role the Blues, Keane said he wasn’t planning on any backroom changes.

Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock says he will consider whether to appeal against Darcy Blake’s red card for a two-footed lunge on Alan Quinn: "We will have a look at the video and see if Darcy deserved a straight red card. If not we will lodge an appeal but first we will look at the tape.

"Overall I don't know at this stage whether it was a point gained or two dropped. What I do know is that we played with confidence in the first half and when we were a goal up but once we conceded that confidence seemed to be sucked out of us."

dirtydingusmagee - So pleased you are back, I was missing you....NOT! Okay, you are boring me now. However, if your last FOUR WORDS are true then I may consider taking you off my list of pillocks. I know, you are extremely grateful, no need to say so....trust me! BEST WISHES TO ALL TRUE BLUES

So,the only way you can be a true supporter is to attend every game and never say anything negative about ITFC?Don't get me wrong i'm not siding with the anti keaners, far from it,to be successfull and keane to be boss is ok with me and am happy to wait for a bit yet but soon if it does'nt change the board have a decision to make, back or sack.It costs me £350 and a 1500 mile trip to attend games,so i make 2/3 trips a season for 6/9 games,am i a bad or true supporter?Neither,i'm just a supporter like you.

dirtydingusmagee, I was not making any reference to you at all so I guess it must be said, don't flatter yourself!
Well said Orkneyblue, I'm guessing by your username you're not local, and the fact that like myself you don't get to many games makes you no less of a supporter.
I hope regardless of feelings about the results or the manager we're all united in one cause, Ipswich Town Football Club!!!

Orkneyblue, go to whatever games you can....you know that, you dont need me to tell you that.
I go to every game i can,it seems to me so do you.
The conversation only arose, and is now settled, about making negative comments, when you have not seen the game, and therefore not qualified to run the team etc down.
Buryblue and i have had a great discussion about this, and i feel like maybe we could call each other a friend.
The thing we both agree on is that we love our club, and supporting them, however we can, is the right thing to do....and it seems to me you feel exactly the same way.

My definition of a supporter, not sure that it says this in any dictionary though, is someone who you can guarantee to be there when needed, through good times and bad.
It seems to me that the vast majority on here fit that definition.
My deepest respects to you all, and remember, we support the best team in the country....be happy!!!

Injuredanimal, when we first started this it almost felt like a little war going on, but you make much sense and speak wise words my friend! As I've said before, none of us are happy with results and current situation but we (true fans) whether we get to many games or not, are in this together. Having thought about this all day and mindlessly stated that maybe the manager should go, from what I've seen or heard or read of recent games the team is trying and I guess if there is one man in football with passion and desire to win it has to be Roy Keane, he really must be wondering what is going on at the moment, but I can see what he is trying to do, in building a new quality side that would compete if we made it to the prem. That doesn't happen overnight, since my brain has now kicked into gear i can rationally look at the bigger picture. However none of us, Keane included quite envisaged our current predicament. We WILL get out of it, Keane will guide us clear. and it's up to the 12 players out there to make it happen (12 being the 11 on the pitch and the 1 that is the crowd) make as much noise as we can and cheer the team on to the victory that is surely just around the corner!!

callumgarryskeemer goes to games when he can, I have a baby boy from a past relationship that i have on the weekends, he is too young now but sure enough when he is old enough we will be going with my little brother who is also an ipswich fan. Just cos i aint local and dont go as much as you does not mean i love em less lor have as much of a valued opinion, i gpo to all london games as this is where i live, even if i did not go i would still have as much of a right to come on here and say what i like!
putyabootsonkeaneo - you talk utter sh*t 3 signings away from the premier league. If yuo think the current team is 3 away from the prem then were supporting a different ipswich cos my ipswich are bottom 14 games without a win. In our team at the moment we have about 4/5 players who could cut it in the prem - that comment does not mean i hate or do not support ipswich!

Some of you on here are such w*nk*ers, some of the geeky lines i read on here make me cringe with the thought of what you look like.

Well said tommyblue
I was at the game yesterday, my local game, thought we didn't look like a bottom 3 side in the second half, Stead coming on changed the game for us, however we really need some firepower up front, you can see the confidence drain when an ITFC player gets sight of goal. Also many of the crosses into the box were poor quality. We'll pick up our first win against Derby, but I predict that this side will not show their true potential until the second half of the season. The performances are improving slowly...also Bruce helped make us look steadier at the back. COYB

The very same Shane Smeltz!!!

He has looked very good over here. He was playing for Wellington before moving to the Gold coast. His goals have been excellent.

He plays up front for New Zealand. Could be a good cheap buy...???

Just a thought...

I am not a bit surprised that we only gained a point on Saturday but I did stress on here that we must not lose and we didn't. However the position of this football Club is now becoming very serious and anything less than a win on Saturday will surely put ther future of Roy Keane in jeopardy as this just cannot go on. If we go down and there is a real probability rather than possibility of this now, it could be years before we can bounce back as we have few youth players of note coming through and our best players will obviously leave for varying reasons. This is now my lowest point of supporting ITFC and without divulging my age it is a long long time. The team being fielded now is actually worse than the team we fielded last season. Although a couple of the players are better the 'team' is far worse and this has be down to the Manager. I am now very worried indeed about our beloved Football Club

We can't afford to wait til the end of December because if were still bottom then, we will almost certainly be in a relegation fight until the end of the season!

Good point StowTractoBoy, going down to League one is bad enough ,but as you say once there, it could take years [if ever] to get back.We do have a couple of good players who could cut it in the prem, but nothing like a team that could, dont worry about your age,ive been going to Town matches since 1965, SOME on here who give it out were still tadpoles then , EVERYONE is intitled to say what they think its a forum ,we will have differences of opinion but no need to get personal COYB ,IN KEANE WE'RE TRUST !

to all those idiots, who go on slating so called non loyal fans, for daring to say the results are crap, keans not doing that good a job so far.As a fan for over 30 years, and only missed a few games since even during the duncan era(yes duncan),i think im entitled to my view, and say the results are poor, and this is one of the worst team in the last 30 odd years. So to all those wembley play off babies, and robson glory hunters.there i dare say were poor at the moment, what you going to say now ive been comming 31 years to my 30 years,i travel 120 miles to my 100 miles i travel to see the games ect, ect, pathetic.the amount of fans who come on here spouting how loyal they are, only travel 20 miles or so,usualy only been comming a since premier league exploits, and usualy as thick as a oak tree.

I can only assume that the fans who don't have the patience and positivity to stick with Keane and the club through a dificult period, have never had the ability to come through anything difficult in their own life.

We're not getting trounced every week, things are improving, I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Denhamblue well said , i have been to the games this year and supported for over thirty years and to say we are poor is not a lack of support for my beloved Town it is reality . Apart from a couple of very good performances Sheff Utd away ,Watford home which were cancelled out by West Brom and Newcastle games which we were appalling we have been very average and somes times crap. This blind belief that good times will come is unbelieveable as we are playing the worst sides in the league now and still cannot win Plymouth,Peterboro,Barnsley,Doncaster,Swansea but to top that ,to slag of the likes of CGS and UEFA 81 who have highlighted this since the start of the season is incredible . I will continue to support and watch even if we are relegated but i dont have to be happy about it or sit in silence that is how problems are solved not denying they are happening . How does anyone know that a new manager would not come in and turn things around instantly like Redknapp did for Spurs ? No one knows !!!! So dont dismiss other fans views for questioning Keane because until he does deliver with results and we go on this promised run you look foolish and childish .
Am i going to be slated now for not eating enough pies at the games as real fans ? !!!!! See at the Derby game

Nice one Surco - I agree some of the fans on here think saying siomething bad against town means you dont support them!

As much as I would love to see ipswich win and Keane succeed, I dont see it happening at the moment - my feeling is that Keane has disrupted the team so much it will take at least another 15-20 games to get it right - we aint got that long- i thuink a new manager would freshen things up and give the players the kick they need!

You speak bad of town and you get people like injured animal, pickels or itfckeano09 that come on and start slating you! They then give it all the big I am that cos they stick by a manager they are better town fans.

The one that got me the most was injured animal saying eh woudl stuick by Keane if he got us relegated - what do you say to that!
