I've got an irrational fear/phobia of..... 18:38 - Sep 20 with 2838 viewsBloots

...spiders.

I'm comfortable enough to admit it, I hate them.

Anyway, one the size of a dinner plate just ran up my arm. I absolutely crapped myself and screamed like a little girl.

The wife is out, so I've had to spend the last 30 mins alternating between chasing it around the living room and running away when it turned and ran towards me.

Pretty sure I've managed to "hoover" the monster up, but it was under the sofa so I'm not 100% certain.

I've now had to put the vacuum cleaner out in the garage, the wife can deal with it later.

I'm still sweating like a Prince in a Pizza Express.

FFS, I'm a grown man.

Enduringly lovable, intelligent and thunderingly exquisite.

Sorry to hear you're suffering Bloots. As you say it's irrational you can't help your reaction, it's not a reflection of your lack of manliness. Not in isolation obviously innit!

I'm pretty relaxed about spiders in the house, or in general, but doesn't change the fact the I squealed like a girl* when I noticed a harvestman climbing up my beard whilst gardening at the weekend.

*or a boy.

we have wasp spiders in the garden - they're very pretty.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Doesn't work! Although we didn't put them on the windowsills (corners of the room on the floor instead) so maybe that's why!

Same here had a humongous spider I a web one autumn, he came to no harm. I've also lived in the countryside all my life and spiders are just part of the deal. The Missus hates them so I dutifully get a glass and card to safely get it out the house. More sadly I have a bespoke bit of cardboard for spider catching! I'm in my 50s it just makes things easier.

I get the irrational fear height is mine, even seeing it on TV on travel shows etc.

It had hairy knees and massive eyes.

It might still be here.

I am imagining a money spider now!

The fears are irrational. Glad not to have spiders as one myself but the family all do. The children learnt it from their mum and her mum (who used to look after them a lot).

Cats are good at killing them generally but they do have a bit of a habit of playing with them first.

Spiders keep the fly population down in the house, so I leave them be. We live in total harmony.

....literally noting else bothers me.

Totally comfortable with all other creepy crawlies, I'll happilly pick them up and pop them outside, no issues.

No problems with snakes or anything like that.

Just bleedin spiders.
