Their Europa tie on Thursday is off as there's not enough police available.

One match!!!!
How is Saturdays full fixture list going to remain intact?

It isn't and was never going to be.

Matches will go ahead only if there are enough police around. Was always the case.

Spoiler alert - they won't.

The scale of preparation from a security and policing perspective for an event like this is unprecedented.

Quite funnily, the police/security services are asking World Leaders to arrive for the funeral on commercial flights and they won't be permitted to travel to the funeral in cars.

I would imagine most games over a certain crowd level will be off. It's a shame we don't have an away game at one of the minnows.

So, in hindsight, they cancelled the wrong weekends games.

Might even be more geographical - i.e. the further away from London, the more likely games might go ahead.

The bit I don't understand is with all the planning, why the delays in announcements? They must know the impacts on policing for next week, it's just maths at the end of the day.

Unless of course the delays are to deter people from making plans (a double bluff).

No hindsight needed. It was always the wrong weekend to postpone as I said at the time.
Still such a dumb decision.

I'm assuming it's to do with 'where' they get the police numbers from? As I say, obviously those forces closer to London will likely provide the bulk and they'll work out from there.

Agree. You would have thought a much loved queen living to 96 would be the cause for a respectful celebration of her life and service more than anything else.

It was just odd. It disrupted the ordinary person at very short notice.
There could then have been some very moving moments all around the country at football grounds with minutes silences, the national anthem and probably some interesting applauses as some games entered their 96th minutes!

Then this weekend coming would have been a the sport downing tools for a couple of days to show respect with no worries about security, policing etc and people would have had plenty of time to make arrangements, especially if travelling overseas etc such as the Norwegian supporters club were.

That's no surprise 'cos she hasn't got a clue about football.

I disagreed with it when it was announced and I still do on some level - I was bored on Saturday - but I understand it and I don't think 'odd' is necessarily the right word.

Logistically it probably was the 'wrong' thing to do, taking into account fixtures and scheduling and how the coming weekend will be affected as well, but ultimately a historic occurrence, and the events that followed, got in the way of every day lives and football matches. I imagine the relevant sporting authorities can live with that.

I also think it's naïve of some people to think all silences and applauses would have been observed properly.

Overall it's okay to be on the fence about it. I would have preferred to be at PR on Saturday but I get why I couldn't be.
