Off to Tromsø next weekend to take part in the Midnight Sun running festival (I’m doing the 10km slowly... like a 2 stone overweight 42 year old should do.)

Was up there two years back and planning on cycling there mid-August via the help of the Helsinki to Lapland night train. Small but cool city...half decent football team also who Morten Gamst Pederson now plays for.
Tromso has the iconic Lofoten Islands somewhat on its doorstep...about 7hrs drive away. You can take the famous Hurtigurten ferry down or grab an internal flight to Svolvaer...the home of The Codfather. Closer by is Senja island which I only spent a day on but wished I'd had longer on. It depends how much time you have but I'd definitely try and get to Lofoten if you can. |  |

37 years since I was there, so not much help, but they had a cracking brewery in the city centre that served "cheap" beer all day long. I doubt it's still there.
Also, I flew from Oslo on a flight that stopped at lots of different places on the way. More like a bus journey although it was a big jet. Once or twice we were only airborne for 15 minutes. One chap on the plane was carrying a bunch of bananas for his mother who lived in Tromso, because "they don't get bananas up there..."
