Away Days - Kit Factor Collab
at 13:33 15 Sep 2021

Afternoon TWTD'ers,

I hope we're all well...minus last nights result / the start to the new era.

I just wanted to give you beer fans a heads up in regards to two new beers which I've collaborated with Kit Factor on.

Ace at Kit Factor is a fellow Town fan and after the start to the season we thought we'd combine our love of the club and our skillsets for a bit of fun...I provide the beer, Ace provided the designs and together the end product was Wark To Victory & PorterMan Road.

I'm sure both names have been suggested before on here, so hats off to any one who mentioned them. Both beers are only on a short run, available in the Kit Factor Packs at the link below, so if you fancy trying some of these tipples, get involved.

https://awaydaysbeer.com/product/kit-factor-pack/

For now, let's hope for a win at the weekend. Certainly won't be any "Cook Out" beer being dropped from Away Days despite being worried by the start. The squad (despite results) is the best it's been for years, this gelling process just perhaps is going to take longer than we expect / would like...I am interested to see how long Cook gets given though.

Thanks as ever for the support and Up The Town.

TIB aka Josh

Away Days at Portman Road
at 15:15 5 Aug 2021

Afternoon TWTD’ers,

I hope we’re all well. I just wanted to drop a message on here as I know the question has been asked a lot regarding Away Days featuring inside the grounds of Portman Road. I spoke to the club this week who put me in contact with Greene King and unfortunately there is no scope for me to feature on site.

Pretty gutted as I had a little bit of hope we might be able to work something out but it’s not to be. I am going to continue to look at other options with my next focus being to find a space to run a pop-up bar or run a tap takeover style event at a pub / bar. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, fingers crossed such an event can happen in the not so distance future.

Cheers,

Away Days Orders
at 19:35 27 Feb 2021

Evening all.

Just wanted to give an update on the Lambert Out orders. I've posted some updates on social media pages but am conscious not everyone uses social media.

The first batch of orders went out Friday, with the rest waiting to be collected Monday. I use DHL Overnight so hopefully anyone that ordered who is still waiting, will be supping some Away Days by Tuesday.

I appreciate the patience, the last week has been a big learning curve in a lot of ways, mostly that packing orders as a one man band is hugely time consuming and when releasing a limited beer like this, to have everything in place to deal with the influx of orders.

I can't thank you all enough for the support, I hope you enjoy the beers and hopefully an Away Days pop-up event isn't far off in the future, not to mention a new, more positively themed, ITFC beer.

Cheers,

Josh

podcast called "Under The Cosh", an episode with Simon Ferry and in the space of 2mins...he's discussed how good Jonny Douglas was to play with and be mentored by, to how he learned more from watching players than being coached...player in question he watched, a 35 year old Paul Lambert.

Great listening though if you fancy some fresh for your ears. Big Jon Parkin is one of the hosts.

Today was my...

first day being self-employed. Technically it was Thursday last week, but today felt more real and the first day I could finally just focus solely on AWAY DAYS!!!

Nearly nine years I worked at a private mental healthcare hospital, first brought in to develop a music based therapy service before moving into the Education department which I ended up leading for the last two years. We found out the hospital was being sold to the NHS just before lockdown so it was a bit of a double whammy once covid hit but we got through and last Wednesday was my final day...I waved off the final service user, sent my last emails, handed in my belt and alarm and that was that.

I've seen and heard some things in my time there...the amount of times I said "I've seen it all now" and then something would come along and make me repeat the phrase. I had a lad try and stab me with a "shank" two years back...luckily his prison art and craft skills weren't up to scratch so it was only a few cuts to my arm and a cut lip and eye I was left with. Overall though, a real life experience the last nine years, with highs and low and leaving with some friends for life.

Back to the title though...today was my first day being self-employed with Away Days. I started the day at 6am with a 2.5 mile walk to layout my goals for the day then jumped onto social media to post some bits. I've got social media training Wednesday which should be interesting...I guess it's more than just GIFs and hashtags!?! The rest of the day has been emails and phone calls as I'm busy preparing to launch new beers and a new subscription / online ordering aspect to Away Days so it's been a bit of a shock to the system just sitting in silence!!!

I'd be interested to hear from other self-employed folk / people that work from home and how they go about their days? I know I'll be out and about more once the new look Away Days is live, but today at one point was bizarre as I realised I've gone from chatting and teaching all day, banter in the office...to sat on my sofa with the dog, just emailing away!?! A bit of a shock.

Any advice would be much appreciated though.

Booking / Ryanair...
at 11:18 30 Apr 2020

Has anyone got anything booked with either company or dealing with them at present?

I have organised a stag do to Berlin for July and am now trying to work out what's going to happen to try and reassure the group. It seems like Ryanair are going to do all they can to keep flying people whilst Booking.com are saying to cancel I either have to pay the £500 cost or contact the hotel directly to request free cancellation, they have no email and I've yet to have the phone answered. I have read online people stating they've been in same situation and their booked hotels are fully closed up but are still taking booking payments.

I currently have visions of being flown to Berlin, where we will be locked in our hotel for two days before maybe being flown home unless the return flight is cancelled!?!

Hi all,

I hope we're all well, I'm not on here as much anymore but was hoping for some advice.

Alongside running Away Days I'm also a teacher at a private healthcare (charity) hospital in the East Midlands where I've been for eight years. Yesterday we were informed that the NHS would be buying the hospital and briefed on how redundancy would work. We were also told three times it wouldn't be a TUPE transfer so no jobs were guaranteed the other side and if there were jobs, we'd have to apply for them.

Can anyone explain how / why this wouldn't be a TUPE? Not surprisingly a lot of folk are freaking out and I figured TWTD was the best place for answers.

Cheers,

Josh

Video editing fans...
at 23:48 11 Oct 2019

I always put together a video after my random adventures and have posted a few on here before. This one is a bit delayed as my computer has had a meltdown...so I decided to edit this short video using my phone.

2mins doesn’t really do the trip justice as it was one of the most physically demanding things I’ve ever done. It all started in Helsinki where we purchased two bikes before getting the night train to Kolari. From here, we cycled 400 miles across 6 days on truly terrible / undersized bikes with 20kg rucksacks on our backs to Tromso passing through Finland, Sweden and into Norway. I “slept” in a hammock which was redundant in the swamps of Lapland and at 3am one morning in the midst of a storm our one man tent gave way so we were forced out and onto our bikes...we didn’t finish cycling until 8pm that day. The reward for our stupidity / effort was £10 pints and watching Tromsø play...still not sure if it was worth it!!!

I hope you enjoy the video. It’s all filmed on a GoPro, DJI Spark and then edited using an app called Splice. I do the videos as I find it a good way to reflect and look back on these things, I also like to think they inspire some folk to get out there and explore and test themselves.

Enjoy

KLM Longhaul...

TWTD...my first stop for travel advice these days...

Has anyone used KLM for long-haul and/or their bidding system for upgrades? I’ve used city hoppers before and it’s always been pleasant and with the BA sale being pretty poor I decided to have a random look on KLM...ended up finding good priced flights to a place I’ve never heard of called Bonaire off coast of Venezuela...it’s 13hrs on one of their A330 and I’m undecided if it’s worth it for a week holiday!?!

Just back from Scandinavia...
at 10:36 22 Aug 2019

cycled from northern Finland, through Sweden and up into Norway, finishing in Tromso where I manged to go and watch Tromso vs Lillestrom!!!

Hell of a trip physically but was nice to finish off watching some football...which was made better by so many fans noticing my ITFC shirt and coming up to speak to me about our club!!! A few older fans spoke of our past whilst a few youngsters were quick to point out our relegation and Norwich's promotion...all in good banter but was just nice to know despite our recent relegation, we're still known and loved in even remote parts of the world!!!

Morten Gamst Pederson was playing for Tromso...he stood out despite his age whilst Tromso also handed a debut to a Man United youth player called Aidan Barlow. Again, he stood out and had a better second half when played out wide. Lillestrom spent most the time on the deck and only scored from a dubious penalty. Game finished all even at 1-1.

Now to get back to preparing these three new ITFC beers and the release of Ale'N Shearer

Away Days Beer - New...

Beer releases!!!

Hi all,

I'm presently working on some new beers set for release later in the year. A few of them will be for a wider football affiliation but some will have ITFC links. I'm presently preparing the release of Ale'N Shearer which should be out late August.

Yesterday I put out some social media feelers for one I'm presently working on for Terry Butcher. There are some pics of the first drafts on our Twitter / Instagram / Facebook @awaydaysbeer...link here to Twitter.

I’m unsure about the name at present so am open to other suggestions? Butcher’s Bandage, Butcher’s Last Stand and Butcher’s Courage are a few being mentioned.

As always, thanks for the support and stay tuned for a few more ITFC themed beers coming out later in the year 🙌🏼🍺⚽️

I'm sure there is a few of you and I'm hoping you might be able to help...

I land in Helsinki on 12th August and my plan is for me and my mate to buy two cheap used bikes and then jump on the overnight train to Kolari before getting off and cycling the 300miles to Tromso...however...my issue at present is finding a bike.

If you know of any bikes shops / friends who might have contacts for such bikes would you might dropping me a comment or DM. So far only one shop has got back to me and they're not certain they'll have anything suitable.

Thanks,

Josh
