In a Previous Job, there was one particular local authority who's social workers I used to DREAD working with. They'd recently been the subject of A Scandal and, appeared to have learnt nothing when we were calling them to relay concerns/make referrals. The indifference and incompetence when faced with genuine(and in some cases, proven) concerns was genuinely frightening.

I find it worrying that someone who works alongside social workers thinks that it's acceptable for someone to use the c and f word around young children.

I dislike swearing in front of young kids but you can’t compare naughty words with the abuse which social workers should deal with efficiently.

No points scoring here, genuine concern, I hope this role working alongside social workers does not involve children.

Perhaps best to read the article before drawing spurious correlations.

Ridiculous.

Are some authorities so afraid of being accused of something that they over-react at everything? Are they so cowardly they'd rather falsely accuse someone else of something that clearly isn't happening?

Sometimes the wrong people are in certain lines of work and are maybe only there cos the money looks good.

I would expect him to act in a professional manner when dealing with children in his role. I certainly wouldn't act the way I do at a football match in front of clients.

There were occasions when, working as a sw back in the early 90s, I came across a few colleagues - one a senior - who really were shockingly prejudiced & unprofessional, sad to say.

But nothing as ludicrous as this case - political correctness seems to have gone utterly mad, and knocked every last grain of basic common sense out of some people. Fear of accusations maybe playing a large part.

Social work has unfortunately been subject to a tendency to hit the panic button from time to time - remember kids being removed en masse from Orkney families because of fears about 'Satanic rituals'? Stan Cohen's 'Folk Devils and Moral Panics' remains as relevant now as when it first came out (in the 1970s iirc).
