Nothing mad about the decision once the facts were established. It is mad that a highly paid manager of Spain would go behind their back, without the permission of the FA to agree a highly paid job with Real Madrid, on the eve of a World Cup. It is mad that Real Madrid would risk the wrath of their own FA by doing such a stupid thing. It is mad that Lopetegui expected to get away with it and not completely rock the squad, especially the influential Barca figures in the dressing room. Spanish FA had no choice. Good on them.

Poll: Would you be willing to consider a new club crest?

Didn’t Robson agree to become PSV’s manager while he was still England manager before Italia 90?

There's a difference between telling your Football Association, the club concerned seeking permission and being granted it and mutually releasing details of the move when agreed to what Real did. Told the Spanish FA they'd gone behind their back and agreed a deal with their manager 5 minutes before telling the press, even after the Spanish FA told them not to break the news.

Good for the Spanish FA.
Real should be ashamed of themselves for tapping up their own national manager.

Yes, but he didn't have loads of PSV players / players from their fiercest rivals in the England squad of 1990.

Still think it’s poor by Real Madrid, they didn’t need to announce it and the timing ludicrous. Just reflects they think they are bigger than their own country! I’m sure they’d be a few national managers looking for new employment after this tournament. Madrid could’ve done it then, make it look like natural wastage.

I've grown to hate Real Madrid. Constant whinging about TV money, Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, sacking managers constantly even after considerable success. But tapping up your own national manager and jeopardising your own country's chances at a world cup days before it starts is unforgiveable. Hopefully the Spanish FA absolutely destroy them over this.

Robson had been told, before the world cup, that his contract wasn't going to be renewed so nothing like it.

Couldn’t remember the details, just all the furore before the competition began in Italy.

HAHAHAHAHAHA as if Real care about that.

Tinpot club supported by a fascist dictator - rightly knocked out of the UEFA cup by Town in 1973.
