Really does go to show where the tournament is held has a dramatic effect on results

Would we have won it in 2019 if not in England?

Still can’t believe we are bottom of the league mind

Conditions were nothing to do with our win in 2019

Think the team hasn’t evolved and been allowed to get old together which is a mistake a lot of successful sides make.

Winning a world Cup in India is very tough, Even at our best it would have been a big challenge. In 2019 we were the best team and had been for 2 or 3 years.

It is what it, it’s up to teams to adjust to the conditions. Where anyone thought preparing in England was the way forward for this tournament was utterly baffling? England have looked poor in all areas, nowhere near showing that they are World Champions, rather shambolic quite honestly. Probably not the worst thing if we end up bottom, we need that embarrassment to force change.

Really pleased for Afghanistan for that particular victory as anyone old enough on here or if not are at least aware of history will know that the Afghans brought back a love for cricket when they came back to their homeland after being refugees in pakistan after 9/11 and all that followed.

Several factors:

Unfortunate circumstances - specifically not currently having the effective 50-over pace bowlers (barring Topley, who is now, in any case, injured).

Some players not in good form.

Selection issues - such as trying to squeeze Stokes into the squad for his morale boosting, when he can't bowl and is barely fit enough to bat at ODI intensity (concentrated running between the wickets).

The "Bazball" approach will fall to pieces if not well executed. If batters give away their wickets and bowlers struggle to take them* then we're stuffed.

* Rashid is good as ever, but getting 7 or 8 in 10 overs is a near impossible task.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

They absolutely were a factor though because the ECB put in place a project with complete focus on winning the competition because we were hosting it for the best part of four years at the expense of the test side, go back and read the quotes from Joe Root who said every time he asked for something, be it player availability, coach support for the test side, the answer was but the ODI side has higher priority.

Which yes that did also mean producing wickets that were suited to England bowlers & batsmen as well. Just like Indias pitches suit their players and Australia's would suit theirs.

And we still almost mucked it up.

What's changed since then, well what have the ECB focussed on the past 4 years to the detriment of all forms of county cricket ?

I just think the succession planning in the last few years in terms of phasing out older players has been the issue. I'd agree Stokes lack of fitness is also a major issue.

I think you're missing the point, which is that playing in India is difficult for players reared on English wickets e.g. Woakes has always been ineffective overseas, England only have one decent spin bowler in Rashid.
