Laura Kuennsberg's State of Chaos ... 08:56 - Sep 11 with 1530 viewsDarth_Koont

"So why did our politics turn into a chaotic, high-stakes soap opera?" asks the BBC's breathlessly dramatic and ultimately useless Political Editor over this very same period.

Hmmm. Let's think. Wouldn't be anything to do with you and the other "leading" pundits like Peston not just failing to hold poor self-serving politicians to account but normalising them and their dangerous politics for the sake of access?

To be fair, while they were certainly part of the problem, root causes run much deeper than that*. After all, populists will always find (or found) pliant news outlets - and ignore the rest.

After all, this is the era of the 24-hour news cycle, where anything which will get your channel noticed over the opposition must be siezed with both hands. Plus the BBC is over a barrel in being reliant upon that same government for funding (with this lot being more than happy to threaten and undermine what should be a respected national institution).

* Economics, political stagnation, tribalism, fear of perceived social change and so on.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I don’t disagree that the BBC is caught between the agenda of the rest of the right-wing media and then far too reliant on government whims for funding.

Also doesn’t help that the BBC’s news and current affairs was and still is run by people like right-wing Brexiteer Robbie Gibb who flit between the top of the BBC and the top of the Conservative Party.

But a public service broadcaster can and should be a buttress against cheap, nasty and predominantly nonsensical populism and the wider issue of our empty self-serving political industry. It certainly shouldn’t be an enabler.

In the race to the bottom, people like Laura K became cheerleaders.

Leaving aside the fact that many prominent journalists and politicians on both sides come from similar backgrounds, and so there is an element of groupthink which stymies true debate in this country, the other thing is just how pally those in media are with politicians.

For example, Nick Robinson, Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis were at Osborne's recent wedding, so how can you expect them properly to hold to account people whom they regard as good eggs?

It is *quite something* that Carol Vorderman and Fergal Sharkey seem to be doing more digging and investigating than major news outlets.

I'm not sure what Vorderman is up to, but Sharkey is a legend. He's been the canary in the coal mine for years on the declining state of our rivers. It's only now that it's starting to become a widely reported issue, and even then the focus is more on coastal water quality rather than the rivers themselves.

Ah yes. This chaos was something vested upon succesive Tory governments since 2016, not as we know, actually caused by those self same bunch of incompetents.

Right wing ideologues intent on pursuing policies that would seem, were they pushed by Thatchers army of student cranks in the 80' as the thoughts of certified lunatics - or libertarians, as they called themselves..

Truss was the inevitable conseuence of such barking mad theories. Remove as much tregulation as possible and business with thrive. Oddly enough the rest of the first world does not see it that way. Just as there is a need fortregulation to control aircraft in the sky, there is a need to have agreed standards.

Fired up the excesses of their own stupidity, idiot phrases became the new mantra. Wilfully underfunding was explained away by being 'disruption'. The more money given to the wealthy, the motre there would be to trickle down to the lower orders. All old bollox, intented to benefit those wealthy folks.

The real question Kuensberg should be addressing is why so many on the lower ruings of society fell for what were not only obvious lies, but dangerous ones at that,

Not an age of chaos, but an age of stupidity

She's up to about 3 blokes a week according to her recent 'disclosures'! 1 from the top, and 2 from the bottom?
