Played in All Four Divisions of English Football
Yet another football quiz... There are up to 10 minutes on this one for you to try and name as many of the 36 teams that have played across all four divisions as you can.
The Fourth Division was introduced in 1958, and three of the clubs listed played in the old First Division only before the fourth tier was formed and have not played in the top flight since. The other 33 have all played in the First Division/Premier League since 1958.
Answers are listed alphabetically and a couple of teams require their full names to be typed out (e.g. "Hartlepool United" instead of just "Hartlepool") as they both play in the same city. One of those two is currently languishing comfortably below the Football League...
Hint: "Ipswich Town" is, of course, not a correct answer.

I must admit, I'd forgotten about them until I used the following link to check if I had missed any teams.

That's been a decent resource once or twice and it's interesting to see the handful of clubs that have played just one, two or three seasons in the top flight and also how few seasons a few of those that are up there now have played in the First Division/Premier League.
After their "decade of dominance" - in which they won no major trophies - that lot are now one season ahead of us in terms of total top-flight campaigns, but hopefully we'll rectify that sooner rather than later. | |

That’s an interesting one!
Having a little look into it, Coventry City played in the old Fourth Division (one season), Third Division North (one season), Third Division South, national Third Division, Second Division, First Division and Premier League before playing in the second-tier First Division/Championship, League One and League Two (one season). So the only divisions of the Football League you could say they didn’t appear in were the 1992-2004 Second and Third Divisions (tiers 3 and 4). And they didn’t appear in the Football League when it was just the Football League (1888-92).
The names of our divisions (nowadays, at least) are silly.
