He also chuckles at the changing terminology of the game. “I was watching my nephew play the other week and spotted a goalkeeper who used to play for me,” he recalls.

“I went over to chat to him and there’s a kid with a bag so I said to him ‘Are you the physio?’ He said ‘No, I’m the head of health, medical, physiology and something else and something else and well-being’. I said to him ‘How wide is your f___ing office door? You’ll never get that title on there!’

Older than old skool itself, you have to love him.

Enduringly lovable, intelligent and thunderingly exquisite.

Super.

Shame some of our fans are still so bitter with some of the comments I’ve seen about him this week.

What a man.

A good manager but would be even better if he embraced change and moved with the times.

From the same article. ‘I do what I can to win a football match but I don’t always do it to please everybody’.

I cannot see how anybody cannot appreciate what he initially did for this club. How much effort he put in throughout his time with us. What he might have achieved with a reasonable budget to work with. But ‘you have to love him’. Not I.
