True leadership, successful leadership, has to be built on a myriad of positive personal qualities. But absolutely critical, and at the centre of it all is integrity. From what I see, read, and hear, we have a group of owners, a CEO, a manager and coaching staff, and a squad who encapsulate that. What a man Kieron McKenna is. What levels of performance have been delivered by Morsy, Chaplin, Davis, well every one of them. Lovely
We play them Saturday 27th. They are away at Leeds in the EFL cup on Wednesday 24th. It doesn’t win you anything, but that has to make it more difficult for them, such a short break after a game you would imagine they will be up for.
There was not a poor performance from any individual today. Every man did his job well. But collectively it was even better than the sum of the parts. Let’s remember it’s a team game, and that was a great team display. Hats off KMcK, and the coaching staff, and to every member of the squad who has trained for that.
Hope this link works, and that people find it worthwhile. If it’s been posted before my apologies. Gordon Hill talking to a MUFC podcast about Paul Mariner.
How many have wenhadnsince we scored from one. And how do we fare compared with the other league one sides on the number of goals scored from corners. My memory is not great, but I cannot remember this being n outstanding source of goals for us.
Formation was much better Players kept the shape very well in first half, both in attack and defence. And in transition between the two Return of Burns was a major positive. No surprise he provided the assist Evans has been a major disappointment to me this season. Thought he had a good game today, and he was very good in first half. Donacien had another good game. Solid defender. Impressed with how far forward Doancien and Edmundson got at times. Solid game from wolf. Stand out player for me was Aluko. Like to see him and Burns on the park at the same time. Two good players who will worry most defences at this level
Our first 9 managers were in post from 1937 to 2002, a smidgen short of 65 years. Our next appointment will be the 9th of the next batch, and he will start some 19 years after the first.
I think the decision to replace Cook is the right one. I just hope the next appointment is in position for a number of years, providing the consistent leadership we surely need.
Very professional performance. Controlled, with the early goal allowing us to retain possession, and burst forward (albeit rarely in the first half), and move the ball quickly to create good opportunities. Team was well organised, and generally disciplined. My only concern is the right side of our defence. Check out where the bulk of the opposition opportunities came from in the last 2 games. The three team left in the contest will identify that. But a momentum is building here. Well done to Gareth and the players.
When they press we struggle. The last two corners for us have been at Pickford’s feet within seconds. When we keep the ball moving quickly we look good, but we need to do that more. But a better half
a personal view. McCarthy came when we were then at our lowest ebb, turned things round massively, and then almost took us up. Things then started to slowly fade, and his football became effective, dull but would no doubt have seen us in the championship even now. I was glad he went, and would have stopped going had he seen out his contract.
Lambert arrived when we were in a similar position. He went down without much of a whimper, and despite a fantastic start to the season, is delivering generally poor performances, lacks a defined system and team selection, and is doing all that in a league where we have significantly greater resources than our competitors.
I think lambert needs to quickly find a settled team, an attractive and effective football style, or I’ll be listening to more talk of be careful of what you wish for.
The first half was the most I had enjoyed for a long time. Lovely pass and move at pace, with a real purpose. I mentioned in another thread that it was the most I had enjoyed a game since Middlesborough at home in December 14. I've seen others comment that it was the best they'd seen us play for some time. So I'm just wondering, if you thought it was particularly decent, when was the last time you thought we did better than that?
Hats off to Paul Lambert for what he has done so far. Cracking stuff to date.
