And second new ball due. Hard work still needed and Malan is mirroring what Sibley did albeit even more slowly.

But with Du Plessis having gone, that's a big breakthrough.

Been a very good test match this for England.

Patient with the bat & ball, long may it continue. I've also questioned Root's captaincy a lot however he's been very good in this game.

Drill a hole.
It's the hard and purest form of cricket. Make something happen.

This is the best part of test cricket for me. Strength of mind. Batter, bowler, skipper, fielder. All heavily involved.

I love the quiet tension and shear grinding attrition.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Not much happening yet with the new ball so i wouldn't over bowl anderson and broad after lunch if there's no early breakthrough, and give the spinners a chance. Root originally tended to carry on where Cook left off and always bowled those two for too long although he seems to be more flexible now. Mind you they are both as dangerous in their 6th or 7th over of a spell as the first or second.

SA still making this hard work but that carelessness from de Kock should help. AS long as it doesn't come down to the reviews England have wasted daftly.

237/6.
