If you need to leave the house....Immodium.

If you don't, just drink lots and use rehydration powders.

Immodium

Not a great idea if it's a stomach bug, loperamide(the generic name for Immodium) is likely to slow the removal of bugs and toxins from the gut. Best to let it run its disgusting course, drink plenty, eat if you can and not return to work until two days 'firmed up'. Oh, and make sure that everyone in the house is practising good hand hygiene with soap and water. Alcohol gels and 'antibacterial' sprays' are ineffective against a lot of gastric bugs.

And if you're unable to keep fluids down, call 111 or your GP.

Is definitely a stomach bug. A very virulent one it is too. Thought I was going to die Saturday night. Cheers for the advice.

I don't eat mcdonalds but if I pick up a little Delhi Belly whilst on holidays I find that a big mac and a coke settles my guts down.

Well, it's alcohol, which kills bugs. The NHS use it in their hand gel so it must be an approved way to kill 'em.

If you were feeling well enough to start drinking whiskey, you were probably getting better already.

A drop of flat coke every now and then is good once you feel up to it. Still Isotonic Lucozade is also good (or any other isotonic drink) as you need to replace salts in your system to rehydrate.

Eat as much Yoghurt as you can over the next few days, different types, especially the "good gut" ones, or fermented cabbage (Sauerkraut or Kimchi) to replenish gut fauna.

Three days is a long time. Maybe ring NHS Direct as food poisoning can cause other problems...

My local hospital got rid of the alcoholic hand gel, as all the alcoholics were stealing it and drinking it.

Replaced it with non-alcoholic hand gel. Fingers crossed the non-alcoholics don't get any ideas.
