I'll wager anyone he doesn't like coach welcomes / pitch invasions etc.

He doesn't represent my area but I have had a look at the policies:

More bobbies on the beat
Target knife/drug-related/domestic abuse crime
Put victims first
Address issues that cause crime with a more holistic, multi-agency, approach.

All very worthy but all of which you would think would require additional money. And yet on funding his statement is:

"Money is the fuel that drives policing. Careful control of taxpayer’s money is needed to get the best value for money."

So if there is to be new money (unlikely), no statement about where this is coming from.
And if there is to be no new money, no statement on which current areas of policing (or other agency work) are to be sacrificed in order to focus on the 4 policy items.

Now I don't suppose for a moment that the basics of his statement would make him substantially different to a number of other candidtes for such a role up and down the country but for all the use his 4 objectives are, without a clear statement on the how (and especially the financial how), he might as well have put them on the side of a bus.

"So if there is to be new money (unlikely), no statement about where this is coming from."

That's easy.

They intend to rob the disabled.

I believe he's also standing on a platform to reinstate the policy of giving prisoners the right to buy their own prison cells. That should raise a bit more money.

You might want to check the date of the article, and I am sure Private Eye joked about this at one stage, but I did come across this article.

Caught me off guard fella!

Got a big day tomorrow and trying to keep my mind off things!

What with this week and Town head's all over the shop. I'd believe anything right now tbh.

So, if you can steal more you can buy a better cell from the very people you stole the money off - the taxpayer. Makes perfect sense to me.

I read that one of the people originally proposing this was Chris Grayling - an arrogant berk who needed to be shown how to eat his rice crispies every morning.

The candidate stinks in my opinion.

Seriously though, this is the first election where I actually think I cannot be bothered to turn up. As much as past me would hate that. The PCCs are just so ... invisible, is that the word? Dunno.

Yep - only PCC vote where I am - and it kind of feels so meh. Not voting which is very unusual for me - cos I really can't see how much difference it would make tbh

Do you realise how pathetic most of you sound?

On this thread you cringeworthy bunch have criticised
his name
his clothes
his background

Not one of you has bothered to look at his policies.

What a sanctimonious bunch you all seem to be - and the funniest is that most of you think you are better people than the tories you seem to spend your lifetime abusing.

To sort this out we need to know where Giles Orpen-Smellie stands on celebratory pitch invasions and the use of pyro around a coach welcome.

Any ideas Hamish?

A point of clarification.

Anybody who isn't either a tory party member or a tory voter is ipso facto a better person than anybody who is either of those.

I am a little curious which one of them lives in the bungalow. I'm guessing the answer is none of them or the one who is neither Truss nor the candidate.

Haha, that’s brilliant because it’s so believable. Nearly had me for a second. They’ll flog anything - even weapons to a murderous regime (nothing new there of course, and not just the Tories).

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

As might be expected of someone endorsed by Truss, Orpen-Smellie went on to ignominious defeat.

Sadly, Suffolk didn't follow Norfolk, and the Conservative PCC held on to his position.
