Huddersfield aren't technically relegated yet.

Do we reckon they go all out and try and stick 15 past us? Stranger things have happened*.

*the probably haven't actually, to be fair.

No.

I'm still wondering tho if it's realistic for a promotion chasing side tonscore 10+ themselves if it was needed to finish ahead of leeds on gd.

Didn’t Bristol Rovers a couple years score six maybe seven on final day to get promoted?

I fear they may be more difficult opponents on Sat than many are anticipating.

As someone said in a different thread re Cov., there's always the danger in these situations of youngsters being given a chance to come on who are desperate to prove themselves before the end of the season (albeit they may make mistakes as well as score genius goals).

I don't think its ever happened before, but teams tend to take their foot off the gas at 5 or 6, conserve energy, make changes etc. If a team needed to do it, I dare say there might be occasions where it could be interesting. Man City at home to Sheffield United or something and needing a 10 goal swing, I reckon they would give it a real go.

They know there is much more likely fun to be had in half-arsing the game vs us and playing a pivotal role in Leeds missing off on the automatics than there is in beating us by 15 goals and staying up.

I've only just realised on 12:58 - Apr 29 with 3226 viewsPinewoodblue

Think, if it came to it, Huddersfield’s fans would be happy to lose by however many it takes to stop Leeds going up.

An unlikely scenario as it requires us to lose tomorrow.

Could we have done so against Exeter last year if required?

I didn't make the game in the end (stupidly booked a weekend away off the back of the Bristol Rovers debacle), but did we let up somewhat in the second half?

Their manager pretty much said on the EFL show last night that he's going to give it a proper go against us. I'm worried tbh.

We could have beaten Exeter 10-0 if it were necessary. The only reason that we let up was that we needed only a win and 6-0 was enough to achieve our goal.

Stranger things have happened? I don’t think they have. The closest I can recall is when Argentina had to beat Peru or somebody by about 7 goals in a World Cup and did.

It later transpired the result was as bent as a nine bob note. The opposition had either been paid off or threatened off.

Possibly. Although going into a game knowing you need that level of swing perhaps doesn't help create the conditions to play like we did and with the freedom we had after the 2nd or 3rd, when we were basically promoted. Different pressure and mindset I guess.

He may well say that, but his players might have other thoughts after having been so roundly thrown under the bus by them.

He hasn't read the room has he.

The last thing he wants to do after relegation huddersfield is to annoy the fans more by promoting Leeds.

The club secretary or legal team would have made it clear to him that he had to say that. If he said anything that would jeopardise the integrity of the competition then the club could be facing a points deduction next season.

Think about the alternative for a second. He would have been asked, he can't go "Yea well, obviously we'll try to win but to be honest the morale is crap and really the result doesn't mean anything to us."

All he can say is "We'll give it a proper go".

I'd hope they would go all out for it. Leave loads of space at the back.

Saturday doesn’t matter if we lose tomorrow.

Tomorrow is must not lose.

If we lose it’s the play offs.

Leeds haven't won their 4th May fixture yet. And all league games are worth the same number of points.

So I'll be treating Saturday as mattering regardless. Whatever happens, Portman Road will be packed on Saturday because however bad tomorrow's result is, we can still be promoted on Saturday, and however good tomorrow's result is, we can still fail on Saturday.

Hardly. If Leeds don't beat Southampton and we win then we are up.

Ha, no but I do wonder if it means he's not quite tempted to stick a load of kids in. They have some decent players to be fair and have only lost three of their last nine aways – of course we can take them but it would be so, so, so nice to only need a point.

Leeds have won 2 of their last 7. Not sure its a dead cert that they turn Southampton over.

Hopefully it matters not what happens at Elland Road though. Do the business tomorrow and its still in our hands.
