Bit of a novelty these days, especially on a Saturday. Bowel screening kit landed on hallway carpet. Oh joy.
Says they are starting screening from the age of 54 now. This is great news.
Although not the most pleasant of things to do, (it really isn't that bad) vitally important that all those who receive a kit, actually do it. Always better to know early if anything is wrong.
At 54, you may feel that you still have plenty of time and no need to worry, but please, do the kit and send it back.
IT MIGHT JUST SAVE YOUR LIFE.

You are a young pup who probably thinks things like this are for us oldies. I would urge all you youngsters to take your health more seriously, (I certainly wish I had) and when asked, do as the Doctor's ask. I ignored mine and although nothing wrong (to my limited knowledge) I wish I had eaten healthier and drank a little less a few years back. Never mind, nothing to worry about and off to the footie shortly.

Reminds me of my relative youth when I had an endoscopy. The doc doing it gave me the second eye-piece to distract me.
After seeing the inside of my sweet tum womanfully doing its thing & chugging away, I developed a kind of affection for it, & promised it I wouldn't subject it to any more years of the same beers, crisps, choc cake etc. routine as I had been - a promise which I must admit only lasted a few months at the time! |  |

We can all do small changes to our lifestyles to help our health. These kits are to find problems early and we all know the earlier they are detected, the better the chances of recovery. 2 out of 100 tests will catch an illness early, so please, if you get a kit in the post, do it. | | | |

I did the screening at 55 and have dutifully sent the ‘sample’ in when requested since. The one at 55 was the camera job. Not the happiest moment of my life. ‘Do you want to watch it in the tele?’ The poor mush doing it asked. ‘You’ve got to be ffing joking!’ Said I.
So I held the pretty nurse’s hand and let them get on with it. Afterwards I was chatting with the nurse and she said bowel cancer is a silent killer. When you realise you have a problem, it’s often too late.
If anything is found with screening, it can usually be dealt with so if invited, however unpleasant, unwanted etc you might think it to be, get it done!! It could literally save your life. |  | | |

I went for an endoscopy and they found two pre-cancerous polyps which were removed. I asked what would have happened if I hadn't had a review and was told I would have been back to see the consultant within two years but this time it would have been a cancer specialist!
