Truro City... 10:15 - Mar 27 with 1229 views | Tangledupin_Blue | ...drew 0-0 last night, at 'home' against Dartford in Nat League South. Their remaining fixtures: Mar 29... Slough... home Apr 1... Chippenham... away Apr 4... Hemel Hempstead... home Apr 6... Aveley... home Apr 9... Torquay... home Apr 11... Yeovil... home Apr 13... Maidstone... home Apr 16... Dover... home Apr 18... Weymouth... home Apr 20... Dartford... away. The final game of the season. There'll be a few tired legs. You might think, 'Well at least most of the games are at home...' But they are playing their 'home' games 200 miles from Truro at Gloucester; far enough away that their hosts play in the Nat League North. Maybe they could have a word with Torquay and travel to their Devon/Cornwall 'derby' match in the same coach and, at least, save a bit on the diesel.

Assuming that they are not full-time professionals they'd need sympathetic bosses in their day jobs and someone with deep pockets to make that happen. One of their rivals in relegation scrap is Taunton and they have only one game fewer than Truro over the same time span.

A slightly different scenario to Truro City, but have a look at National League North, poor old Bishop Stortford already relegated, 15/20mins down the road to Braintree Town and Chelmsford City, ridiculous. They had Darlington away 23rd December, in fact their closest game in that league was Peterborough Sports! How do you recruit players for that level of football with games taking up all your Saturdays or travelling up on a Friday night? Dread to think some of the times they’d get back for midweek games?!

When you look at the clubs involved it is difficult to see what else they could've done. Maybe put Braintree and Chelmsford into the North Division and Hereford and Gloucester to the South. But then Chelmsford's London area neighbours would be in the other grouping. The dividing line has to be somewhere. Unfortunate for Bishop's Stortford but I'd say the league made the best of a bad hand.
