Gin when I started in pubs was an old persons drink. You’d get a Gordon’s, maybe a lump of ice and even an old bit of lemon if you were lucky, then a warm bottle of Schweppes. Shots didn’t really happen - trying to think if Aftershock was the first one to really take off - then corky’s. Wines - white I particular - when I started the big seller was Piesporte, that moved to Jacobs Creek Chardonnay, then Pinot Grigio - then NZ Sauvignon Blanc … Ales - Boddingtons - would any of the youngsters have a clue now!?
First time I got legless as a teenager was half a bottle of Cinzano Rosso, around 1984.. I wouldn't recommend it. My stomach lining took a right hammering..

The Saint often had a port out of a decanter whilst solving crimes in a day. Not something many people do nowadays except as a sickly drink with Xmas pud or to make a bad Stilton even worse.
Not many drink Grand Marnier, Crème de Menthe and other liqueurs that were de rigeur for middle class living in the 60s and 70s - and Granny is most unlikely to ask for a gin and French any more as noilly prat is no longer popular for some strange reason.
