It’s going to be a horrible election campaign. Especially with the increase in spending limits.

We're still fairly unused to attack ads in the UK, compared with America, despite them having been around for a while ("Labour Isn't Working", Blair evil eyes).

That's because the front page of The Sun specialised in them, at no cost!

The point is that Labour haven't historically indulged in them, because your example shows that the Tories do. As does a recollection of the leaflet that the Tories posted through people's letterboxes in the 60s:

If you want a "N Word" for a neighbour-
Vote Labour!

I think the 'attack ads' of old like the ones you quote at least had some inventiveness and wit about them, which of course came at a cost via the likes of Saatchi and Saatchi.

Now it's just some social media intern who thinks he's funny and clever.

I'd have thought it would be fairly easy to counter this one. The answer should be fixing the broken system created by the Tories, to process claims more quickly meaning we save £millions on uneccessary hotel contracts awarded to friends of the Tories. Simultaneously build better relations with ovrseas partners to work on fixing return agreements that the Tories also broke.

Or in short 'fixing the Tory mess'. Or 'The Tories broke it, Labour will fix it'. Anything along those lines would work and can be applied to pretty much every part of the system touched by Government. And there's all the stats needed to back up how bad the Tories have been. It 'should' be the esiest landlside ever, unless Labour shoot themselves in the foot.

What was the BBC presenter thinking to put a middle finger up literally as they were going on air?

She needs firing too. Utterly unprofessional.

Or simply turn it around to "This is how most voters feel about the Conservatives*".

It was a private joke between her and the camera team - unfortunately for her she thought she had a few seconds to spare before the broadcast started….she didn’t.

She was doing the countdown, goofing around with her mates in the studio. Bit silly but a bit extreme to say she needs firing for it.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
