I’m sure I read Sunderland lost £200m from their time in the Premier League. It’s definitely not a licence to print money up there

My Mackem mate told me it was £140m but who knows. Regardless of my pedanticness (new word) of the figures, your point is well made.

Sunderland spent over 10 years in the PL, most of it struggling to stay up. They finished on their knees financially. You have to ask what was the point of that. It seems more of a licence to print debt than anything else.

I think that's a very well considered piece of critical thinking, I can't see any holes in it, and I find that I completely agree with you.
