Cole Skuse is a joy... 10:54 - Aug 3 with 3897 views | wkj | Only now catching up on Life's a Pitch TV - It is incredible to hear about Skuses' affinity towards the club and to see he's genuinely invested in the success of the team. I am paraphrasing by saying this, but he does seem to suggest that GC20's improvements behind the scenes have been massive.

Cole Skuse is a joy... on 19:04 - Aug 3 with 572 views | muhrensleftfoot | Yes it was a good watch. Skuse is an intelligent and articulate guy, and spoke a lot of sense. One thing that came across is how he and others in that Ipswich team have the utmost respect and affection for Mick McCarthy. A great and considerate human being even if his tactics were a bit “old fashioned”.

Cole Skuse is a joy... on 17:57 - Aug 3 by itfcjoe | Jackson been a ‘good servant’ I rate him more highly than most - but incredible to think he is our most expensive signing since Grant Leadbitter joined us in 2009; and only GL, Lee Martin, Gareth McAuley and Tamas Priskin have cost more since we were relegated in 2002 |
Especially when you consider the price inflation in football transfers over the last 4-5 years. The fact we got Hirst and Broadhead for less money than KJ tells a lot about purchasing skills between managements. [Post edited 4 Aug 2023 7:12]

Price inflation has mainly been confined to the top flight and top European leagues in fairness. If anything there's less money being spent overall in the Championship over the last couple of seasons than was being spent 5 years ago. The more stringent FFP rules and clubs getting close to going to the wall has seen to that. No doubt Accrington rinsed us over Jackson though, I like him but at that time there's no way he was worth the £1.75m we paid for him.

None of the players Hurst signed were worth the fees we paid. Lower league clubs saw Championship Ipswich loaded with cash after selling Webster etc & thought "hmm...nice". Apart from over paying, the bigger problem was that none of his signings were Championship standard.

I'd argue that we've (eventually) had decent value out of Donacien at £750k but it's taken 5 years for that to be the case. Everyone else he signed though we absolutely overpaid by a mile, and Donacien has only gone on to be worth it about 4 managers down the line.

Indeed, Donacien has proven to be a good League 1 player over the past 2 seasons, but no way was he worth £750k.
